I am amazed at the size of the lenses of your old glasses. I think they are twice, and possibly three times, as big as my current glasses!

Well, that photo was taken in the summer of 1987, before my senior year of high school. I'd like to say that they were hip for back in the day, but I'm not sure I had a good grasp of such things.

You'd be surprised (and horrified) to discover how many yearbook photos in the late '80s featured that lighting effect.

The irony of it is that by the end of my senior year, I had grown my hair out and gotten contacts, so I actually didn't look like this any more.

Yes, I still had braces at the beginning of my senior year, and through those photos. Of course, I wore this really awful felt hat for my senior pictures, trying to be all suave and stuff. But by the end of the year, I looked pretty different.

That sounds familiar. My favorite hat back in the day was a knit black fedora that, combined with my shortish hair, gave me a somewhat androgynous look. Thank goodness I opted not to wear it in my senior picture! But then again, at least it would have hidden the hair...
