Monday Morning Photos

I had breakfast with The Gryphon in Center City Philadelphia this morning. Along the way, I took a few photos worth sharing.

First is a shot I took as we got into the car, which was parked in our driveway in the alley. A sunrise like this is the only thing that can make our alleyway beautiful, especially on trash morning!

I took this sunrise next picture over the railroad tracks for the light rail, which we were taking into Center City Philadelphia.

These people (one of whom is likely a tree doctor) were inoculating the elms in Independence Park against Dutch Elm Disease. The woman was kind enough to explain when I asked what they were doing.

This elm behind Independence Hall is getting an inoculation against Dutch Elm Disease. The tree doctor stuck multiple devices at the base of the tree, and the tree will absorb the inoculation. I'm glad I'm not a tree. They don't get just one shot, but about 15 at once!

There are these guerrilla artists in Philadelphia who make these sort of word and picture tar appliques. Usually, they seem to make no sense at all: perhaps they're just designed to make people stop and ponder something beyond their everyday lives. The artists place these appliques on roads, and the art stays for years and years. Spotted a new one this morning, at the corner of Sixth and Chestnut, near Independence Hall. It says "pole."

Moral:
If you have your camera with you, you can capture interesting moments.
