I have barely slept more than 5 hours at a time for the past 2 or so weeks.
It seemed like I was ahead of time closing my life in Melbourne until I weighed my things using my brother's scales. The panic attack that followed was ill founded; At the airport we found that they were out by about 15 kgs! Luckily we brought most things with us and jammed them all in at the airport, but the frantic unpacking and repacking meant a few things were left undone at my place.
The goodbyes were short and I made my boarding time with 10 minutes to spare. During my security check someone yelled out my name and handed me the credit card that I had left in the pharmacy grabbing last minute prescription sleeping pills. As I went to put this in my pocket the top right corner of the card snapped - leaving it useless for airport use. I am currently in Abu Dhabi with nothing other than Aussie dollars and Euros on the one rare occasion that I don't bring a few US dollars for emergency use.
During my flight, direct from Melbourne, I was pretty out of it from the stillnox and managed to spill orange juice all over myself, drenching my pillow, but sparing my electronics. Just after this I discovered that my travel agent hadn't informed the airline of my nutritional problems. Etihad happened to have a chef on board (is this a new thing?) so they offered to make me a fresh food-tard friendly meal. It was some sort of fish .
It turned out that the fish was no good and within an hour I found myself vomiting into only the cups that I could grasp from my window seat. I had to find a way to climb over my isle seat companion without spilling the vomit on him, which was difficult as I only had so many cups and had already spilled it all over myself!
Straight after that i got a blood nose out of no where. What a day!
I arrived to Abu Dhabi and had a few spare hours so I went to the toilets to refresh, only to find that mother nature had chosen this moment to remind me that I am an unsatisfactory baby factory. Hooray. I usually only take carry on luggage, but as I am moving and not just travelling this time, my shammy towel and most of my toiletries are in my check in so I couldn't really do much more than change my underwear, brush my teeth, wash my face and spray some perfume.
I started a friendly conversation with the cleaner lady as I freshened up and I usually find that being friendly counts. She informed me that the water I had just drank from the tap isn't drinking water.
My 8 hour flight to Milan boards in 15 minutes. Hopefully I have better luck waiting for me on the other side!
*edit* My arrival was the smoothest of all my travels!
