Chapter 7
Unknown Location, November 2011
Chloe’s eyes widened. Winslow Schott was standing in front of her, an eerie smile on his face. Well that explains why she had recognized her captor’s voice. Winslow Schott a.k.a. Toyman had been causing the team, more specifically Oliver, a lot of trouble over the past few years. The last she had heard, he was in solitary on Stryker’s Island. But what did he want with her? Was this another ploy to get revenge against her husband?
“Well, I can’t say I’m glad to see you. Actually, I would have been much happier, never habing to see you again,” Chloe replied matter-of-factly.
His eyes narrowed and she could see the fury behind them. Maybe pushing him wasn’t such a good idea.
“Well I sure am happy to see you. You know, you have caused me a lot of trouble over the years. I know it was you that helped Oliver when I was about to show the world who he really was,” he sneered while slowly walking around her chair and coming to stop directly behind her.
Chloe tried to turn her head and keep him in her view but the ropes were too tight and her neck was still aching. She didn’t like not being able to see what he was doing but she decided it best to keep quiet.
He leaned in and whispered loudly in her ear, startling her. “Let me tell you, Chloe, a lot has changed since we last met! I have a team of my own now and we want to play,” he said menacingly. Then he turned quickly away and slammed the door behind him, the loud bang echoing throughout the room, leaving Chloe with her thoughts.\
What did he mean a team of his own? That couldn’t be good. It was pretty apparent that he was working for Lex but, an entire team? That’s just great she thought, hoping that Oliver had figured out some sort of plan. All she had to do now was wait.

Oliver rubbed his hand over his face tiredly, letting out a sigh as he stepped into the elevator. He hadn’t planned on going into work until he had found Chloe but there was some sort of crisis and the board was starting to complain about his priorities. Hah, if only they knew. Sometimes it really was hard living two different lives.
The elevator chimed, shaking him from his thoughts. He stepped out and reached for the handles on the double doors, pushing them open. He looked around the room and a small smile touched his lips for the first time since Chloe’s disappearance.
Soon after his small meltdown, Lois and Clark had helped him get the team back together. It was hard but eventually they contacted Bart, Dinah, A.C. and Victor. They arrived within the next few hours and the rest was all a blur. They worked around the clock. Chloe was important to each and every one of them and they were all willing to do anything to get her back.
Bart looked up at Oliver as he entered. “Hey bossman, I ran to check out those warehouses in Minnesota that you were talking about,” he said quickly, “But no luck. They’re completely empty.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll keep looking. We’ll find her,” A.C. chimed in. Dinah and Victor nodded in agreement.
Oliver sighed. It seemed like every day was the same. They find a possible lead and it turned out to be a dead end. He threw his coat and brief case on the couch and loosened his tie as he made his way to the main computer console. They had a few more possibilities to check out yet. Maybe once Lois and Clark got back, he would go with Bart to check them out. There were just so many possibilities and there was no way they could cover all that ground themselves, even with two super speedy guys on the team. They were going to need some more help.
Oliver picked up his jacket and dug around in the pocket, pulling out his cellphone. He dialed the familiar number of his best friend, smiling when the man answered. “Hey, it’s Oliver. We need your help.”
**********
It hadn’t taken any convincing to get Hal Jordan to come to Metropolis. They had been best friends since college and the fact that they both lead double lives had only brought them closer. Hal had only met Chloe once or twice but they hit it off right away. It had meant a lot to Oliver that they got along so well.
Oliver had sent Victor and Dinah out on patrol, leaving Bart and A.C. to check out a few more hot spots. He was brushing Hal up on the situation when the double doors opened and Lois and Clark walked in. Lois rushed up to him, completely oblivious to Hal’s presence.
“There’s word spreading of a huge grand opening Lex is throwing that’s supposed to be the new experimental wing at Metropolis General. I tried doing some digging but no luck. They’re keeping a tight lid on the whole project. The event is supposed to be next week sometime,” she said quickly, hardly taking time to breath. It was then that she noticed the man standing next to her.
“Who the hell are you?” she said bluntly, eyeing him.
Oliver shook his head as Hal chuckled, extending his hand.
“I’m Hal. And you are?”
“Lois Lane,” she replied, raising her eyebrows at his hand but not taking it.
Just then Clark walked over to the trio. He had never met Hal but Oliver had talked about him a few times. Superhero or not, he didn’t like the way the other man was eying his fiancé. He strode up behind her and put his arm around her waist, pulling her snugly against his side. He took Hal’s extended hand and shook it firmly. “Soon to be Lois Kent. I’m Clark Kent, her fiancé.”
Lois rolled her eyes at him and attempted to wiggle out of his grip. Sometimes his insecurity was ridiculous.
Hal just smiled and shook Clark’s hand. “Nice to meet you Clark.”
Oliver sighed impatiently. “And I’m Oliver. Great, now that we all know each other can we get back to the plan?”
Hal looked at his friend and frowned. He knew how much Chloe meant to him. Losing her was really taking its toll. “Sure man, we’re listening.”

Chloe opened her eyes slowly, glancing around the room. When had she fallen asleep? This didn’t look like the same room that she had been in for the last few days. Or was it weeks? The walls looked like large mirrors. She was still bound to a chair but now she was gagged. Next to her, was a small silver tray.
Before she had time to contemplate the purpose of this room, she saw a door open to her left. Winslow stepped through the opening, his face expressionless. Behind him came a doctor in a lab coat, carrying a small duffel bag in his hand.
The doctor set the bag on the floor and unzipped it. He began pulling out various items, all extremely sharp looking, and placing them neatly on the metal tray next to her.
“Well, well, well, Miss Sullivan. We meet again!“ He said loudly as came to a stop in front of her. He bent forward, his face inches from hers. “It’s time to play.”
Chloe gulped, her stomach turning at the thought of what was going to happen.
Toyman picked up a sharp looking knife and ran it gently up her arm, leaving a thin trail of blood in its wake.
Chloe gritted her teeth and closed her eyes, the slice on her arm feeling unusually warm.
Just then the door opened again and this time Lex stepped through the door, a stern look on his face. “Mr. Schott. What are you doing? I believe you have somewhere else to be,” he said menacingly, leaving no room for argument.
Winslow pulled back his hand and placed the knife back on the tray.
“Yes, sir,” he mumbled as he made his way to the door and slammed it shut.
Lex glanced at Chloe, meeting her eyes. “Leave us alone,” he said to the doctor without breaking eye contact. The doctor scurried to the door and shut it gently behind him. “So I’m guessing you’ve figured out that I have my memories back. You always were very smart. I suppose that made up for your less than average appearance. You see, when I awoke in that lab, I couldn’t remember a single thing before that moment. Not one incident, not one event of my life. There’s something very wrong about that. And so I had a team of the best scientists working day and night to find a cure for my unfortunate memory loss. Thankfully, they succeeded. Well, a temporary cure anyway. It brought back my memories in brief flashes. Most of them were meaningless to me but one stood out in particular,” Lex said solemnly as he rolled up the sleeves of his shirt.
Chloe sat motionless, eyes unblinking.
“You see, I remembered all about those meteor freaks and their special powers and then I recalled that you had one of these powers, the power of healing,” Lex went on. “That’s quite a powerful gift, Chloe. It’s a gift I intend to use to fully restore my memories,” he said as he reached for the largest blade.
Chloe’s eyes widened, but she said nothing. She’d give him nothing.
“I also seem to recall all the trouble you and your little team put me through all those years and believe me, I’m going to make you pay,” he threatened as he reached for the cloth that gagged her. “Feel free to scream all you want, Chloe; no one can hear you down here. In fact, it might make this a little more fun if you do scream.” He changed his mind, pulling the gag from her mouth.
Chloe gasped for air. “Wait. If you supposedly have your memories back then you’ll remember that my power went away. I can’t heal anymore,” she said quickly, watching his face for any reaction.
“Oh really?” he replied, gesturing towards the spot on her arm where Winslow had cut her. “Then how do you explain that?”
Chloe glanced at her arm and her eyes widened. Her skin was completely smooth with no trace of the cut that Toyman had left. What was going on? Her power was gone, wasn’t it?
“Let’see how far this little power of yours can go,” he said as he slid the knife up her thigh, a twisted grin settling on his face. He lifted the knife, and shoved the length of the blade into her abdomen and twisted it.
Chloe’s scream echoed loudly throughout the chamber.

The whole team stood around Watchtower as Oliver reviewed their plan one more time. It was obvious that there was something behind this little charity event that Lex was planning. He had decided that he and Hal would go to the party. Lois and Clark would also be there because they were part of the press. While they were at the party, Bart, Dinah, and A.C. would check out the new hospital wing while Victor stayed behind and played Watchtower.
“Does everybody know their positions?” Oliver asked as he glanced over the faces of his team members. They all nodded their expressions serious. They knew how important this mission was to all of them but especially to their leader.
“Alright then, let’s go get my wife back.”
