Many of the workers’ fingers had been caught in machines, scalded with irons, singed with hot steam, twisted in iron scrap, sliced off by razor blades or snapped off with bolt cutters. Somewhere between the agonizing screams of the men and the blood and bone splinters spewing across the room I decided factory work was not for me.
