Of course, I'm commenting on the Sudan thing. Mainly because black people in Sudan aren't African Americans. You you have to be American to be an African American. :-p

And its more than just racial, its also religious. Blacks in Sudan tend to be Christian, left over from the former Christian kingdom of Makuria that dominated the region back in the middle ages. This is important mainly because many of the Islamists commiting these atrocities get a kick out of crucifying their Christian victims. Nice guys, huh?

This whole tragedy is a perfect example of how ineffectual the UN is, though. For example, so far, only $25 million of the promises $500 million in aid has arrived. And this conflict has been going on for 21 years or so. Add to that malaria epidemics (which could easily be solved by a generous helping of DDT, but there seems to be no mention of using it in the news).

Its a tragedy, but we can't send troops to every place thats seriously screwed up in the world. Because there's plenty of more places in the world just as bad as Sudan, if not worse. However, you might be happy to know that Kofi Annon, head of the UN, wants to send 10,000 peacekeepers down there.
