POV: Third
Summary: Brendon is a prince who has an evil twin. Ryan is the son of a farmer. When, one day, Ryan finds himself at the service of Brendon and his vicious twin brother... adventure ensues. This story is more than just a misguided romance. It is an action/adventure novel, with twists, turns, zany characters, symbolism, and a running story theme of self discovery. Enjoy the chapter titles which are posted at the beginning of each chapter. These titles may have some clues as to where the tale is headed.
Disclaimer: While the story and novel is of my own creation. I do not own panic at the disco or any of their intellectual property rights. This posting is not done for any form of profit. I am not implying the sexuality of any members of the band. I am merely a gay author and tend to write stories with gay characters. I thought it would be interesting to take a break from my other works and weave a tale about the members of one of my favorite bands.

Also, if you are looking for porn then this novel is probably not for you. There are sex scenes but sex is not the driving point of this work.

The novel is 42 chapters long and 108,229 words. I will post one chapter every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Please comment on each chapter. Comments feed me! :)

A/N: If I ran for moderator on the northern downpour forum … would you vote for me?

They are having a contest and I am thinking of running… but only if I wouldn’t fall flat on my face :(

I'd be anti-censorship because I strongly believe that people who pay 30 dollars to use these boards should be allowed to do what they want as long as they are not being disruptive to others or directly invading panic's privacy. But I would also work hard to tone down bullying and extremely inappropriate content.

I am 26. I am very rational. I always think through tough decisions and try to do what is fair to everyone involved regardless of my personal friendships.

I've had 8 years of college, and a lot of managerial experience.

I also believe that mods should have LIMITED power. There need to be checks and balances. I do not want mods that are “above” the other posters and I do not want mods that are bullies. That is a big part of why I want to run.

One of the first thing the new mods need to do is to devise a system in which they can be impeached if need be and checks can be placed on their authority.

So, um, yeah, would you vote for me or anything?

Chapter 36 - Your Turn

The throne room erupted into chaos as guards swarmed around the king’s dead body, and servants fled the scene in horror.

So many people scrambled about that Ryan worried he was going to be trampled to death as all of the feet rushed over him, and the crowds pushed and shoved.

Brendon tried to wriggle free of Bruiser’s grasp, but he couldn’t. The guard on his shoulder had such a tight grip there was no way he’d escape.

“Pardon me,” Brendon heard Zack’s voice next to his ear.

Bruiser turned towards the other man to watch as Zack’s fist collided with his face.

Bruiser stumbled back from the cracking blow and released Brendon’s shoulders in the process.

Brendon ran straight towards Ryan and pulled the boy away from the crowding mob.

Dr. Walker took advantage of the panic as well by kicking his leg backwards into the groin of the guard who was holding onto his torso. As the man groaned in agony, the doctor pulled himself forward and towards freedom.

“We have to escape!” Brendon shouted, with Ryan clutched in his arms and Zack standing at his side.

“The drawer in your bedroom!” Dr. Walker answered.

“What?”

“Go past your bedroom as you leave. Look in the drawer next to my old bed. What you find there is yours.”

“Why?”

“When you are done I will meet you at the tree,” Dr. Walker finished, knowing that Brendon knew of which tree he spoke.

“What if you don’t make it out of the palace?”

“You’ve known me for years… do you really think I’m not going to make it out of this?” Dr. Walker raised his brow.

“Right.” Brendon answered, “I’ll meet you at the tree.”

“Here,” Zack said, drawing his own sword from his belt and handing it to the doctor, “you will do better with this than I.”

With that, Zack scooped Ryan up in his arms, and he, Ryan, and Brendon made their way through the throngs of people crowding toward the king.

The trio ran to Brendon’s room, leaving Dr. Walker behind.

Brendon literally kicked his door open in the frantic rush to get to the drawer and then get out of the palace before his brother noticed they were missing.

“Lay him on the bed,” Brendon ordered, and Zack placed Ryan’s weak body onto the mattress as the prince rushed through the sitting room and into the far bedchamber on the other side.

Brendon opened the drawer beside the bed which was filled to the brim with Dr. Walker’s old embroidered handkerchiefs. He saw nothing, just pieces of cloth with the letters J. J. W. sewed in mirrored threads on the bottom corners.

The prince began digging deeper through the drawer, tossing the handkerchiefs away as he went. His hand accidentally collided with the bottom of the drawer, and he heard a hollow sound. He knocked on it. It was hollow.

Brendon felt around the edges and found a small hole dug into the upper right- hand side.

“The key,” he muttered to himself and dug into his pants pockets to pull out the rusted key that Dr. Walker had given to him, but it wasn’t there.

“Shit,” he muttered and remembered that they had used the instrument to pick the lock to his bedchamber door.

Brendon rushed back through the sitting room and looked in the front door’s keyhole. Nothing was there. His eyes darted around frantically; he was lost as to where it could be.

Then, in the corner of his eye, he saw it lying on the floor. It had been dropped and kicked aside during the ruckus when he and Dr. Walker had rushed into the room in order to avoid being discovered in the hallway.

The prince grabbed the item and rushed back toward the drawer in the doctor’s old bedroom.

As soon as he reached the drawer he, jammed the key into the drawer’s hidden keyhole, and a soft clicking sound echoed in his ears.

He pulled the bottom of the drawer open and looked inside.

At the bottom of a large compartment was a green top hat, a gold handled knife and a note.

Excellent, he thought to himself, a weapon; Doctor Walker was a genius.

He unfolded the note and stared down at the spidery handwriting. It read:

‘The Back of the Wardrobe.”

What? Why was doctor Walker so weird!?

Brendon jumped up, shoved the knife into his pocket, took the green top hat from the drawer, and placed it on his own head.

Brendon rushed to the wardrobe and threw the doors open. He pulled the clothes out and examined the back. He didn’t see a keyhole anywhere. He knocked on the wood… it was hollow. He ran his fingers along the seams but had no idea how to get into it.

He didn’t have time to figure it out, so he kicked through the thin hollow wood with his foot, smashing splinters into the air again and again with each kick.

Within minutes the back of the wardrobe was in shambles and standing before him was a swirling blue cane with dragons carved on the side.

He carefully took the item into his hands and twisted the top knob to pull out a small slender sword. Was Doctor Walker giving this to him? Wow, what a present.

Brendon noticed, attached to the cane by a thin string yet another note. It read: ‘Now it is your turn.”

Not having time to worry about what the note meant, Brendon turned around quickly and rushed into the front room of the chamber.

“Here,” Brendon said, tossing the knife with the golden handle to Zack, “you don’t have a sword, you’ll need that.”

“Nice hat,” Zack smirked as he scooped Ryan back into his arms, and the three of them ran across the threshold of the bedroom.

No sooner were they out in the hallway than they heard the voice of Brent screeching from the distance.

“THERE THEY ARE!”

All three turned to see Brent and Bruiser flanked by guards; all of whom had their swords drawn.

“Get them! Now!” Brent roared, and the trio fled the oncoming mob of soldiers who dashed toward them.

The three companions raced down the stairs to the front floor of the building, never able to get out of earshot of the thunderous sound of soldier’s feet following behind them.

The guards were now close on their heels, and Zack took a sudden turn into one of the side rooms on the first floor.

Brendon followed Zack into the side room, utterly confused.

“Why are we in here?” Brendon panted.

“Better than out there. It at least puts a door between them and us.”

The prince watched as Zack locked the door behind them and pushed a sofa from the room in front of the entrance.

Brendon could hear the soldiers pounding their fists against the door and saw the tip of a sword blade pierce the wood. He looked around the room, but there was no other exit.

“We’re trapped!”

“No, we’re not,” Zack shouted, putting Ryan, who wobbled, down and rushing away toward a far window.

Brendon steadied a tottering Ryan as Zack grabbed a seven-pronged candelabrum from the desk beneath the window’s seal and shattered the glass panes.

“Come on!” Zack screamed, and Brendon helped Ryan towards the newly formed exit.

The door to the room behind them was slowly being torn open as they climbed up onto the desk beneath the window.

Zack jumped through the window which lead to a seven foot drop to the grounds below. Brendon, using all of his strength, helped Ryan’s weakened body up onto the desk and through the frame of the broken out window.

“Come on Ryan; I’ll catch you!” Zack shouted, and the peasant shut his eyes and thrust himself from the window seal.

Ryan fully expected to crash into the hard ground, as he was barely able to stand much less catch himself if Zack missed, but instead he felt his body cupped into the guard’s strong arms… a perfect catch.

Brendon was just starting through the window after Ryan when the door to the room behind him burst open, and guards swarmed toward him. He turned around, still standing on the desk in front of the broken window and kicked one of the men in the head.

Before another soldier could retaliate, Brendon jumped through the window and crashed down into the grass of the palace lawn.

“You okay?” Zack asked as Brendon pulled himself up.

“Yes.”

To Brendon’s horror, soldiers started pouring from the mouth of the palace and out from the window they had just used to escape.

“GO! GO! GO!” Brendon shouted and ran towards the east gate. Zack followed with Ryan scooped up in his arms.

The two guards, whose job it was to keep the east gate, stood in front of the exit with their swords drawn.

Brendon pulled the slender sword out of the sheath of the cane that Dr, Walker had given him and used the sheath part to strike the head of the one of the guards while using the sword to slice the paring hand off of the other.

It was all so fast that he couldn’t believe he had managed to get on the other side of the guards. One of the guards, the one who had been cut, clutched his hand but still tried to stand between Zack and Ryan.

Zack shoved a large boot into the man’s chest, and the bleeding guard crashed into the stone wall of the east gate and crumbled to the ground.

As the trio started to run toward the edge of the woods, the guard whom Brendon had only stunned with the sheath caught up with them and tripped Brendon’s leg.

Brendon turned around and found the man looming over him, trying to pin his shoulders to the ground.

“Off of me!” Brendon shouted, “that is an order!”

“The king is dead!” the guard replied. “Your brother is now the king! His order is what matters.”

Brendon reached up and jabbed his thumb into the man’s eye causing the guard to spin off of him and clutch at his face.

“Come on!” Zack shouted, and Brendon quickly gathered himself and leapt to his feet.

Within moments Brendon and Zack, with Ryan in his arms, were running through the forest toward the tree where Dr. Walker had told them to meet.

The branches of the trees scraped against their faces and the roots tripped at their heels as they ran, but they never stopped, because they knew if they did they would be caught and their lives would be over.

Finally, the clearing of the trees spread apart before them and they burst into the place where Brendon had been so many times in his early youth.

The prince stared up at the crooked tree and could still imagine all of the dead animals that had once hung from its limbs.

“Dr. Walker!” Brendon called out while looking around desperately.

“Over here!” a voice called back.

Dr. Walker stood alone on the other side of the tree, motioning for them to come toward him.

At first, Brendon was relieved to see that the doctor had made it here safely, but then… the prince realized that something seemed very, very wrong with the look in Jon Walker’s eyes.

Sneak Peek At Chapter 37: “The Second Coming Of Doctor Walker”:

… … …

“What’s wrong?” Brendon asked. As he stared into Dr. Walker’s eyes, he shuddered at the creepy look he saw there.

“Nothing! Nothing is wrong at all!” Dr. Walker said, forcing a smile. “Come, give me a hug.”
… … …

Ryan turned and buried his face into Brendon’s neck, and Brendon kissed the top of the boy’s head.

… … …

“NOOOO!” the prince shouted

… … …

“You were going to sell us out?”

… … …

There were at least seven bodies lying on the ground.

… … …

“Then what did you plan?”

“Revenge, revenge, revenge,” the man lulled in a sing song voice. “I plan to kill you.”
