"The true magic of this broken world lay in the ability of the things it contained to vanish, to become so thoroughly lost, that they might never have existed in the first place

Tonks had just been released from St. Mungo's, and after checking on her cottage (thanks to her mum, so many things there did themselves... which was good, considering her 'talent' with housework, that there shouldn't have been a reason to check, but for making sure what food she had to get for herself), she reported to Headquarters.
The house seemed... so empty. She'd seen it empty before, but it seemed somehow even quieter. She navigated around the rooms where she could find somebody until she reached the kitchen, seeing Lupin sitting there morosely.
With all the... energy of getting out of the hospital... and finding him of all people here (Oh, she'd done quite a bit of thinking, she'd had nothing else to do while recovering, and she'd realised some things), she bounced into the room

He didn't hear her walk in; too engrossed in his own grief to notice the world around him, he only realised he wasn't alone when she spoke.
It made him start, eyes wide as he turned to her.
"Tonks! Back from Saint Mungos, then? That's..." He trailed off as her gaze fell to the paper before him, his face falling again.
They were family. Remus remembered her, as a child, adoring her older cousin. He remembered thinking Sirius must be a bad influence, knowing he would do his best to keep her safe.
"Sorry I startled you. Didn't mean to." I mean, I'm not exactly quiet, moving 'round the house, Tonks rolled her eyes at herself, inside.
"I... it took a bit for me to learn, actually. Nobody cared to tell me at first, and I must've been knocked out when it... " She flopped to a chair besides Lupin and blinked at the paper.
"He's... been acquitted? Now isn't this timely." Oh yeah. The small issue she had with the Aurors' office over him being sentenced over something he never did. One of the few real quibbles she had with her job.
Tonks looked up at the face of the man beside her. He looks older. That... the twinkle in his eyes is not there.
"I think that you're missing him more. You knew him better. 'm sorry too."

"I'm sorry," he said, his voice softer, lower.
((So sorry this took so long.))
