Matsuo Suzuki and Aoki Munetaka cast in NHK's "Chikaemon"

Matsuo Suzuki and Aoki Munetaka are set to star in "Chikaemon". The drama takes place in 1703 and centers around Monzaemon Chikamatsu. Chikamatsu is a middle age joruri (a form of storytelling) whose wife has left him and whose mother is fed up with him. Meeting Mankichi, a gambler, results in his life changing.

The drama will be written by Fujimoto Yuki who has previously worked on 2005's "Hana Yori Dango", 2007's NHK Asadora "Chiritotechin", 2012's "Taira no Kiyomori", and 2013's "Meoto Zenzai".

In addition to Matsuo and Aoki, actress Yuka will be playing Osode. Koike Teppei has been cast as Tokubei. Hayami Akari has also been cast.

"Chikaemon" will air on Thursdays from January 14, 2016. It will have a total of eight episodes.
