Kanjani8 member Yasuda Shota will be playing the role of a detective in the upcoming film "Scanner".
The work is an original work by Furusawa Ryota ("Kisaragi", "Aibou") and will be directed by Kaneko Shusuke ("Death Note"). It centers around a man named Sengoku Kazuhiko who can read the "residual thoughts" left by people in objects and places. His former partner is Maruyama Ryuji, who had once been part of his comey duo, and the two begin challenging various cases. Nomura Mansai will be challenging the role of Sengoku. Maruyama is set to be played by Miyasako Hiroyuki. Kimura Fumino and Sugisaki Hana will also be appearing, they will be playing Sawamura Yukie and Akiyami Ami respectively.
Yasuda will be playing Sasabe Satoru, a young and elite detective that works at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Investigation Division One. He begins to secretly enlist Sengoku and Maruyama to help in investigations after finding out about Sengoku's abilities.
On his role, Yasuda commented "This is my first detective role, so I don't have a reference. Sasabe, the character that I play, faces conflict due to the fact he is the son of a higher up of the police bureaucracy but doesn't show his struggles. On the other hand, he's also someone that will push to uncover the truth in order to solve a case. That's the kind of feeling I had playing him."
"Scanner" will be released in 2016.
