Busy busy weekend following a low-key week. I am wiped!
This last week was much less busy than the previous one, internships have yet to start and orientation has pretty much wrapped, so there was a lot of down time. I enjoyed it.
Last Monday (was it really only then?) my pals and I went to Hollywood for the day. (See some
photos) And we made a brief stop at NBC studios to take part in the picketing for the writer's strike. Then to top it off, we headed to
iO West in Hollywood to take in a improv show that supported the Strike Fund for below the line workers.
Classes Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Filled with 2-hour-films, lighting labs, being named Production Designer for an HWP film (YEAH!!), editing labs, and walking home in the rain. Friday my roomies and I went out to eat in Beverly Hills and took in a movie at the shopping center. (Finally saw Enchanted, loved it).
Saturday was great fun. Our crew at LAFSC headed out to the Dream Center and took part in their Adopt-a-Block program. We loaded up some buses with food and drove out to some of the poorer neighborhoods to hand it out, walk around, pray for people, play with kids, and just be Jesus. It was wonderful. Then Saturday night we had dinner at Rebecca, the director's house. That was wonderful (good food! YUM!) Then some of us made a trip to
Pinkberry, a fantastical frozen yogurt joint here in LA. My roomies had invited some people back to watch a movie, but I opted for bed because (dun dun duuuunnn) I had to be on set this morning.
I graciously agreed to play a role in one of my classmate's films (well actually two classmates' films). So we spent 7 hours shooting. I got to work with two professional actresses, and we prayed the rain would let up long enough for us to get some of the outside shooting done. Acting for film is tiring, but very fun. Today I got to daydream, swear, yell, get slapped, sign books, get kissed, and have a generally awkward time. But I loved it.
I took a quick nap this evening and then booked it over to another classmate's apartment to appear in his film. We shot all the interior shots (three costume changes!!!) today, and tomorrow (weather permitting) we will shoot the fun stuff outside. When someone casually asks if you can ride a skateboard, think twice before agreeing. :)
So tomorrow will bring more filming, an evening movie for my HW Theology class, and hopefully a call from Firefly Casting concerning my internship. And that will kick off another crazy week in Cali.
Lesson's learned this week:
~ The (Pacific) Ocean is West, not East.
~ Don't tell a guy you only asked for his business card because he's hot
~ Making a movie in two hours is funny, but not necessarily fun
~ Green tea frozen yogurt is made from heaven
~ You cannot start from 3rd gear
~ Patrick doesn't know what day it is
~ LA peeps freak out when it rains
~ My kitchen gets the best cell phone reception
~ It is not socially acceptable to wear eyeshadow on one eye
~ Blue light is night light
~ When someone slaps you on camera, don't flinch before their hand makes contact with your face
~ When your hosts tell you they are 'going to bed' they probably mean 'you can leave now' and not 'come eat hamburger's and dance in my kitchen'.
~ And that is why I don't know how Donnie Darko ends
'night!
