So Bolivar Missouri just experienced the worst winter storm in at least 20 years. It rained ice for a couple days, we lost power all through town for over 24 hours. My apartment was freezing! Since I was down to my last match and bored out of my mind, my mom and dad came and picked me up before the storm got worse again yesterday afternoon.
We went to walmart, the only place in town aside from the power company to have power. It was pretty insane, I think I saw just about everyone I know there, trying to stock up on the last of the food items that don't require cooking. There were no bananas left, hardly any apples, the lunch meat was all but gone, and we got some of the last chips. We overheard someone ask a clerk where the flashlights were, and he informed her they had no more. Walmart lost power a couple times while we were there, but thankfully they have back up generators. One our way out we say my brother and some friends, they informed us they were coming to walmart to hang out and see whats happening. I guess living in the dorms with no power gets kinda boring.
The main power line to SBU was knocked down by the storm, as well as many others around town. As a result the college canceled classes for the first time in ages. I guess no power does that.
So in an attempt to keep warm and pass the time my siblings and I snuggled on the couch together and read The Magicians Nephew by flashlight. The kids were sent to bed at about 7, and much to our delight the power returned for good at about 11:30pm. Before that it would come on for just a couple seconds, then we had a couple minutes at a time. It was funny to watch my mom and I scramble for the microwave, her to heat up her ricepack and me to heat up water for tea. It was getting below 60 degrees in the house, which was quite chilly.
Today, while we have power, I decided to get online and waste time. Such fun. We've been watching the birds outside, feeding them breadcrumbs and taking pictures.
Speaking of pictures, here's a bunch of what my world looks like right now
