{Nashcon} a rambly rendition of events

Jun 11, 2011 20:34

I bet you were starting to wonder if I'd ever make a post at all about this? ...no, probably not.

Nashcon by the numbers: Total miles - 530.9; Total money spent: around $300; Total amount of sleep: 32 hours in 5 days. Amount of fun had: Priceless.

Bah, I'm too lazy to upload photos to go with the story now, oh well. Here have our photo op to make up for the lack of other pics:

There was a very adorable litte boy in a Superman shirt in line in front of us that Misha picked up for their photo op. That was cute.

Anyway.

Thursday I worked until 8am, slept a few hours and drove to Nashville.

Friday toolazytowork unfortunately had to work so I bumbled around Nashville by myself, learning the ways of one-way streets and yield signs. Went to the Parthenon, which is so adorable how proud everyone is of their EXACT REPLICA OF THE GREEK PARTHENON!!11!!!1 I mean it was pretty but uh, it's Nashville. Also the Athena statue is ugly and huge. Then I went to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which was neat, even if I'm not fond of country, things like Elvis' gold car and piano were cool. Though admission was rather steep and I only had 2 hours of meter time so I hurried through the rest of downtown.

Went to karaoke at the Opryland by myself as well, tired after a day of walking, really only stayed long enough to hear Stephanie sing Carry On Wayward Son, Matt Cohen do the jerk a bazillion times, Richard lead everyone in a rousing rendition of Tennessee's state song, and then I left when people started being awkward. Also was a little annoyed that the stage was just full of people who'd never bothered to leave once they sang, choosing instead to "chum with the ~stars~" or whatever but it was annoying. And logically I knew that I'd have to get up early since I was planning on riding in with toolazytowork and she had to be there early because she was a volunteer (And seriously, if you can't afford to go to a con, consider volunteering. Depending on the job you end up doing, it's still a pretty awesome way to have a con experience.)

Except I ended up sleeping in and driving myself. I meandered around by myself for a good portion of Saturday, sat in the hallway for like an hour and coaxed my phone into showing me Jared's tweets on his brand new twitter and practically died laughing at most of them, spent a bit of time pestering toolazytowork at the vending table, then finally stumbled upon amyshaped and chatted for a bit, then stumbled upon a couple of tumblr peeps and followed them around like a lost puppy for a bit. And then! Jared and Jensen! You don't care to hear about the panel because there are glorious videos of the whole thing so I'm going to use this opportunity to bitch about the seating. I always buy Gen Admission right, and I expect a seat in the back of the room. What I don't expect is a seat in the back CORNER of the room, which really pissed me off. This is the only thing about the weekend that was very very rude. Anyway, I quite enjoyed Jared and Jensen speaking of course, though I discovered I've become so cynical regarding what fans say when they ask their questions. There was a lot of eyerolling from me and there probably didn't need to be.

I don't know what happened next. There were other panels, etc etc. And then there was more of me wandering around doing nothing, only to stumble into Madison upstairs and then we were talking all "Heyyyyyy you're THAT Madison from tumblr" and JENSEN WALKS BY WITH HIS GUITAR. It was only a split second but I can die happy. (wait no i'd like to hear him play it too. i could've afforded that ticket damnit)

aklhsdf U;ve been trying to write this post for three days and failing. Anyway Madison and co had seats in the front row for Brian Buckley's concert so I sat up there and go to see Jared up close introducing them, and also Genevieve waved at me when I waved at her! And she walked right by me! She is so thin but athletic (her biceps, man, no wonder she can carry Jared around on her back. :P) And she's also prettier in real life, as everyone in this cast seems to be.

a;sdlkjfsd I don't know what else happened.

Other highlights include watching panels from the very back of the room (seriously sitting on the tables right in the back for all the panels but J2 and Misha - greatest view in the house when you don't care about taking pictures)

Meeting Madison got me to meeting a lovely mother/daughter pair who happened to have an extra seat in row L, which is where I watched Misha's panel from, which was nice.

After Madison went up to the mic and told Misha she had her puzzle piece, she was told to find Stephanie or Gary, but she didn't know who they were so I took it upon myself to try and find them. We found Gary who of course was all "What the hell?" because Misha likes to throw wrenches in everyone's plans, and he told us to sit by the cocktail party doors. Which is where we sat, for an hour. So when Misha tweeted "Madison, where are you?" that's where she was. And had been. But on the plus side I got to meet some really fun ppl while sitting there (though I didn't get many names) and Misha (Chad, Richard, Brock, etc, etc) walked by us like a thousand times. Oh also we got to chat up the bodyguards, who told some humorous "craziest fan encounter" stories. (None of which were really all that bad, tbh.)

But yeah, details, details. This con wasn't AS fun as ChiCons' seem to be for me, mostly because I had a lot of downtime and didn't know very many people and am also kind of down on Supernatural lately (MY LOVE FOR SEASON TWO HAS NO BOUNDS. EVERYTHING ELSE...EH IT'S OKAAAAAY) and also I mean, what the hell can top surprise!Jensen --> J2M panel from last year. so IDK. But it was still awesome and I would love to (and maybe will be able to) go back next year (but I'm also kind of sold on ChiCon and I think two cons a year would be a little...insane, don't you think? ohgodimbecomingoneofthosepeople)

Ironically (or maybe not) the first con I ever went to, when I was 4 (and I met William Shatner!) was one of Creation's first cons. I just discovered this fact when I went to put my photo op in the family "convention binder." Yes, we're a bunch of nerds.

aks;ljfsldkjf so many cool things I'm sure I'm forgetting but whatever. I'd like to take this moment to thank twofourteen for selling me her ticket so that I didn't have to deal with Creation (who always seems to screw up my order somehow), as well as toolazytowork for allowing me not only to stay in her house but like, trusting me with a house key and leaving me alone (with her adorable pets) to bumble around. Please please stop worrying about Friday night, I'm just glad you recovered and everything was glorious for the next two days.

In related news, every time Jared tweets I flail. I set up my phone to receive his and Misha's tweets AT ALL TIMES because I don't want to miss this shit, it's G L O R I O U S.

I'm working 6 days in a row, then going to Muncie with aplethora (or should I say "rescuing her from a life of boredom") and then working 6 more days, all on top of coming back from Nashville and then working the next day, so essentially I don't have a free day until June 24th, so if you don't see me around anywhere, that's why.

Sorry this post is long and rambly and really probably not all that exciting since I didn't discuss any of what was said in the panels or anything (THEY WERE ALL HILARIOUS). If you follow my twitter, you know I updated about pretty much everything that happened to me this weekend no matter how absurd or mundane, as well as tweeted through all the panels as best I could. But in short: I HAD AN AWESOME TIME AND WAS SAD TO GO.

psssshhhh misha, jensen is pretty and stuffs, nashcon, con, j2: the epic love story, a day in the life: convention edition, all roads lead to supernatural, jared freaking padalecki
