So I go to microcenter to pick up a new laptop. I was going for the cheapest one because I just needed something with functionality nothing special. I'm down to the cheapest of the lot and because there's 3 within the same price range I'm trying to compare the computers with the knowledge I had, a print out of the computer specs, and some text messaging to people who know far more than me about computers.
And some Obama speech is playing in the background.
I can't concentrate and I'm annoyed.
I say to my friend "Let's just go now. I can't concentrate with this idiot blathering on about magical 95% tax cuts"
He says "yeah they're playing it too loud to even sit here and play around" (He was sitting at a computer they had with super duper awesome specs).
We walk out of the laptop section and are heading towards the exit.
This guy who was watching the speech follows us and says
"You don't like Obama because you're stupid" to which I immediately reply
"Yeah that'll get me to vote for your candidate. I think maybe you're stupid." This comment and retort happens as we're both walking.
He keeps following us out. He has this maniacal smile on this face all joker like sans the makeup and my friend says
"Wait, did he call you stupid?" and I go "Yeah lets go. its no biggie"
My friend turns around to basically kick this guys ass. My friend is a big guy and could kick this guys ass easily.
I say "No don't! Come on man"
my friend shouts at the guy as I'm tugging him to go
"Hey you're the fuckin idiot here. You don't think anyone else should have an opinion?. Thats fuckin stupid"
and I'm all calm "Dude quiet. its not a big deal, trust me I've been dealing with these fanatics for a year now. This is nothing new to me"
Yet my friend continues on "You fuckin idiot" I continue to try to calm him down
"Dude your voice is raised which makes you look stupid when its obvious he is so lets just keep walking"
Again all this is happening as we are walking and the guy is following us with his fanatical, maniacal smile. As we near the exit he veers off back into the store. I assume he didn't want to meet us outside and see what would happen. So it was obvious he was just following us and didn't just happen to need to go to the exit at that moment. I actually end up telling the manager perhaps his dept shouldn't play things that incite fanatics. They coulda been playing a movie instead which is what most people play in these stores (including that one). Definitely no fights broke out in a Best Buy because someone was annoyed that they were playing The Return of the Jedi. We leave. I come back to get the laptop later. I assume the Obama supporter--a mid to late thirties guy with impressive inability to campaign for his candidate was dealt with by others in the store. At the end of the day this is Texas so when you bring up that shit you're more likely to meet a Republican here than a Democrat. And many won't walk away like my friend did.
Anyway it amuses me mostly because the friend I was with has heard me bitch about fanatical supporters for the past year
"I really thought you were just exaggerating. Thats insane. Thats like insane religious fanaticism 'Death to America' types. Thats..wow I....I can't believe that happened"
"Well it did."
"Does that make you less likely to vote for him since you're still undecided"
"Nope, it makes me unlikely to ever go to a rally."
