Today was New Year's Eve, but Micheal didn't feel much like celebrating.
It was two fold woe. Their were memories of a year ago and a similar party as to the one that he could hear beginning above him in rec room. But then, it hadn't so much been the party he remembered but the skinny dip in the ocean afterwards, then the run to the hot spring that ended in a declaration that Micheal didn't think he'd ever live to regret. And even now, he still didn't but it still pained him to remember.
And now this year, there was a disappearance to add to it all. It wasn't that he saw his mother everyday that was the clue, because occasionally even on the island they missed each other. No it was the complete lack of evidence of her presence in the kitchen and not just one day, but for two at least. That was enough for Micheal to confirm the feeling that had been growing in the pit of his stomach.
So he stayed in his room, glad Wilson was out enjoying himself, but he couldn't stand it himself. He knew that if Debbie was here she'd want him out there and not moping about her, but he'd tried and he just couldn't stomach it. Tomorrow he'd get on with life, but tonight he just wanted to miss his mother.
