Sunday/Monday June 11/12

Moving Sucks! Finally got all my stuff into the apartment and I notice 2 things. 1) this place is disgustingly dirty and 2) I have a lot of crap. In regards to my first point, how do people live like this. How bad is it? Ok lets try and describe. There is food on atleast on wall in every room. The bedroom had food on 3 walls. Gum on the floor in the hallway, living room and bedroom. There is a residue on ALL the floors. When I say residue, I mean an accumulation of dirt and grease that makes your shoes grip the floor, your socks stick and your bare feel absolutely gross. Lots of work to do. All rooms need hole filling done. All the walls in the bedroom need to be painted as well as the ceiling. The living room needs to be painted in 2 colors which I think will give the place my unique yet stylish character. The bathroom isn’t that bad. I want a new toilet seat and cover, and the walls need to be filled and painted. It should take an hour. The kitchen has a lot of scrubbing to do. Thanks to Heather and Kari, the shelves are almost done. Gotta give the fridge and the stove a once over. The wall by the stove is pretty bad but I got most of the grease off. The floors were nasty but thanks to bleach and water its much better now. A few more passes with the mop and it’ll be clean and a little polish and it’ll be nice. As I said, there is lots of work to do.

Tuesday June 13- One wall, kitchen shelves and ceiling
Well I really wanted to not see that wall in my room with the sut and drawings on it so this is where I started painting first. In all truth, I started taking too much paint of the roller in the pan so I think the first section of it was rolled on too thin but I got the hang of it and the rest of the wall went well. It was the same thing when it came to doing the ceiling. Because of the soot and dirtiness of the whole thing I just wanted to see it gone. The ceiling proved taxing on the shoulders to paint but with the right leverage and some patience, it got done. Even after the first coat things looked better. You could still see the soot through the paint but the room looks brighter already. I am looking forward to finishing it. After that I went in with bleach and water and gave the entire cupboard a good scrubbing. From the top down and the countertop. There is still a little weird feeling to the countertop but atleast I know its clean…er. I have just the cupboard above the microwave left to clean and then the one above the stove and I am done. I will lay down the blue rubbery mat inside the cupboards and then start filling them first with dishes, then with food. I also have yet to do the pantry.

Wednesday June 14 - rest of the walls and kitchen counter
Was tired but decided to just push and paint as much as possible today. I just sanded down all the filler and started painting and painting and painting. Painting with everything in the room sucks but it’s a necessary evil. So back and forth my bed and machine go. Well with one coat of paint on all walls, the room looks a lot better. Its actually nice to see the progress and know that I did it all with no help. Afterwards while the walls were drying, I gave the countertop another good rubbing and its almost sterile. I wont feel decent in that kitchen until the broken fridge is out, the floors are bleached again and some decent paint is on the walls.

Thursday June 15 - 2nd coat on ceiling and 2 of 4 walls. Finished fridge setup.
Finally the fridge is set up properly. I had to run back the Mariette last night to find the shelves which they took out for some reason but I found them and I’m happy. Today I went through and washed them out with bleach and water in the bath tub and installed them. Now I feel like I’m making some progress! Once that was done I jumped in and started painting again. The second coat of the ceiling ate up the remainder of the first gallon of paint so I had to purchase another one. I was considering biting the bullet and buing a big 5 gallon bucket but it just cant be worth it. One gallon did 4 walls plus a ceiling with a quarter bucket to spare so I bought just another gallon. Even if I bought 4 gallons at $33, it still wont equal the price of one big bucket at $140. So anyways the second coat was put on the 2 walls on the door side and it looks great. Small imperfections here and there but very nice. I cannot wait to get the soot wall painted. All that remains in that room are the soot wall and the window wall (which uses little paint cuz its all window and door), then give the floors 4 moppings (2 bleach and water and one water and windex and one with lavender) and then I can actually move in and not have to sleep on the couch.

Friday June 16 - heading to TO for wedding. Back to work Sunday.
