Elan wiped the steam from the mirror with a hand towel. A thin sheen of water hung on his bare chest and arms as he glanced in the mirror, frowning slightly. His hair was becoming quite long, him having forgone a trim until after he returned, the present trouble unanticipated ( Read more... )

"...Er."

The sight that greeted Shelley as she walked past the open bathroom door was indeed a peculiar one.

She stares.

Did he... have to choose a sparkly purple scrunchie?

A glance over towards Shelley from Elan. He continued to act as if nothing were the matter, being unaware of the inappropriateness of his hair accessory.

"Good morning, Shelley."

"...Why sparkles?" she asks, after a few stupefied seconds.

It's really better than commenting on his state of semi-undress that he left the door open on again.

His brow furrowed as he tilted his head to the side. After a few moments, it occurred to him that she was speaking of the hair device, and he commented a touch defensively.

"It was the first that I grabbed from the drawer so the question might be better asked of you."

"It is for parties," she says testily. "Sparkly times! You are... really not a sparkly person, Elan."

Really. Really not.

Crossing his arms, he commented dryly with an upraised chin in an attempt at humor.

"There is plenty about me which is sparkly, and I am enjoyable to have at parties."

"No, you are not," says Shelley with certainty.

"Sorry."

A frown as clarified sharply.

"While the philosophy department parties may not be known for their wild hedonism, there was good food, entertaining party games, and dancing, awkward though it may have been."

Shelley facepalms.

"Not with sparkles, though," she manages after a moment.

He raised a finger as if to refute her, but just shook his head.

"Not so much with sparkles, really."

"No. Take it off? The scrunchie?"

Even with her mental censoring, Shelley knew enough to alter that sentence.

With a small sigh, Elan removed the scrunchie. Glancing at it for a moment, the nigh irresistible urge that often seized males when presented with such a thing gripped Elan. Grinning, he placed his index finger inside, and used its natural elastic properties to launch it at Shelley.

Shelley catches it.

Then boggles at the fact that she managed, and didn't miss.

Her surprise delays the reaction by a few seconds, then

"...Hey!"

A raised eyebrow from Elan as he commented rather levelly, ignoring his assault via hair scrunchie on her.

"Yes, Shelley?"

She sighs in exasperation.

"Oh... nothing."

And turns to walk out in impotent indignation. Just because it's not outright evil doesn't mean it isn't irritating.

A small sigh as he left the room to follow after her, inquiring with a small sigh.

"Shelley."

Another deep breath as he turned slightly so he was not facing her directly.

"May we discuss it if there is a problem?"
