Location: Ali's Room, Mauston, WI
Seth is chatting on Ali's laptop. Ali is sort of justs hovering around, occasionally humming to the music and singing and asking us LotR Trivial Pursuit questions. It's a low-key cooldown to an interesting day. See, I forgot the Second Cardinal Rule of Road Tripping.
Rule One: Always buy a map of the areas you'll be visiting.
Rule Two: Always check your directions agains said bought map.
Rule Three: Always have water. It's easy to be dehydrated in a car.
Rule Four: Any town with a soft-serve ice cream place and a NAPA auto parts store exists. Any town that does not have both does not exist. Extra points if the two are next to or across the street from one another.
(Ripon gets extra points, as per Rule Four. They are across WI-23 from each other.)
See, my directions had a third page. But my printer didn't print it and labeled the fourth page as the third of three. The bastard. So I got to take WI-23 and then take CR-K up to Mauston. The mistake cost me an hour. Oh well. Gotta happen once, right?
We took the day, after my arrival at 1pm, to go go-karting and to observe Ali go on her first roller-coaster. I hate roller-coasters, so I waited to observe the results only. They were mild at worst. Good sign. Everything here is chill. Very fitting.
Yesterday was a full day. Between a lunch, a short tour of FedCo, a movie, a dinner that seemed to be calculated by Jessica's family to be a ruse to prevent her from cooking, and that damned hard puzzle, I was pretty tuckered out come 2 in the morning. (2? I'm not even sure I made it to 2.) By the way, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an immensely good movie. The best scene in that movie: when Willy Wonka comes back after his dad says "I won't be here when you get back." By the way, Christopher Lee is the right person to play that part.
Wednesday was... simply wonderful. After a relatively short three-hour drive and a quick aquaintance with the house and its assorted pets, we drove into Green Bay - where I didn't get mauled - and had tea and talked, which was incredibly enjoyable. Afterwards, dinner and wasting the night away listening to music and talking until 3am; we even ran a short scene. Quite a fun start to this trip.
I wonder why I didn't do this before.
