More "Trip Book" Pages

Sep 26, 2003 21:48

I was having quite a lull in my "creative engine" process over the past several months, but it came back with a vengeance it seems, hence the several most recent "Trip Book" pages I made all within the last month. Since there are so many this time, I've provided links to each one rather than simply pasting it directly into the entry. I still have, ( Read more... )

"Beautiful. You have impeccable taste, VaVa. Do you ever work in design?"

*squeal* Wow, what a super-ginchy comment to receive from someone so amazingly talented, which I definitely consider you to be. I do not see myself as an "artist" in the truest sense as I view you, so to read those words makes me feel somewhat undeserving, yet at the same time, oh-so-very-flattered. Whee!

As for working in design, nope. I've only had menial shit retail jobs, and the comic I was working on only entailed writing and editing. As for the actual artwork involved, I would merely stare in awe at it, and then "officially approve" it, having the illustrator then do a finalized version.

As I said, I have absolutely NO talent in these shaky hands of mine, only an appreciative eye for others' work, and perhaps the ability to wield a gluestick almost as well as a pen. I've always viewed myself as being a writer, however, always, ALWAYS coveting the abilities of the many talented visual artist pals of mine.

Which brings me to something I was wanting to ask you, preferably in an e-mail, but I'll simply spurt it out here for the time being, and perhaps we can discuss it in further detail in e-mails. Would you be at all interested in collaborating with me on a comic book project that I've been wanting to do for quite some time now, and even discussed the publishing of something like it with Chris Staros of Top Shelf a few times? I loved your style in the comics you sent me, and especially after seeing your little icon version of me, I considered you may be perfect for this particular project. I'm sure many people have asked the same from you, but should you have any interest at all in wanting to work on this with me, by all means, let me know, and we will talk about it in more detail through e-mail. In the meantime...

With Much Fondness...

Zoinks! I remember a time when I was overloaded with project proposals, actually, but thishyar is out of the blue. Neat. So let's see if I can make sense despite flu...

Holy mother PRO! You have all the stuff I don't: a way with color, striking-stylish design ideas (ie, the kind that go on book covers), and a writing style that English-speaking humans can enjoy. You also seem willing and able to sell/represent the project, a job I hate. And you like fun! Score!!

Con, or at least realitywhack: I'm about a third of the way into a 13-page comic-collaboration, with spacemummy as writer. Rather feebly, I seem to be running at full capacity squeezing out a mere page of that (plus a Wednesday comic) per week. (And it's really a very easy project: practically all I have to draw is tortured flesh and various facial expressions - no complicated spaceships.) I mean to finish that off by the end of the year. Before that, I'd be an idiot to wade into anything else.

So, what I'm wonderin' is:

1) can you wait that long?
2) Are the required drawings easy ones (emotions, creatures, live nude nudes) or hideously difficult ones (cars, Minneapolis, crinolines)?
3) And obviously: the scale of the project?? If it were anything heavier than a 32-page one-shot, your guess would be as good as mine how long it would take, whether I'd burn out or what...

Is there a thcript or thynopthith or anything? Can I see?
