No, I haven't read the books. And I don't think I want to for the same reason as you - if they are too much of an ordinary romance novel, then I am really not interested in it. It's not the kind of book I usually read.

I only watched the first season last year since I saw so much talk about it from my friends on Twitter, and how they all were obsessed with the duke. So I wanted to check it out. For a newcomer, having no idea who all those people are, the first scene is quite confusing, being thrown into it with all the faces and names. And at first I had trouble keeping the three Bridgerton boys apart, they really do look alike!

And I spent half the episode wondering where the black people in society came from. Once I realized what it was they were doing and that it was supposed to be a bit over the top, I was in for the ride and had great fun. I had expected something like Downton Abbey and at first was like, so this is what it looks like when America tries their hands on a British show LOL

I also do especially love how the girls in their dresses always not sit uptight and properly but lounge back on the sofa in a comfortable pose.

From reading fan discussions on the internet, I do know some things though, also about what Daphne did to get pregnant, which apparently was a bit toned down in the show.

There are also those who wonder if they will make Benedict gay in the show (at least they were wondering last year when there were some hints), and how then his love story from the books would play out. So for comparison reasons, it might be interesting to read them afterwards and you may find that a lot is different.

Also apparently they have rushed ahead and already put some of Colin's story into this season - maybe fearing they might not get enough seasons to cover all books?

Basically, they were both so obsessed about what they felt was their "duties" and so afraid of love (Anthony) or insecure about themselves (Kate) they created all the obstacles themselves.

Ah, that makes sense! I truly thought it had to do with not being on the same high born level. I did not understand why they would intruduce one as Miss Sharma and the other as Miss Edwina Sharma. Why not also say Miss Kate Sharma?

Edwina was like a doll. Always saying the exact perfect things that were expected from her, and that were drilled into her. A bit like when Higgins says to Eliza that there is not one thought in her head that he hasn't put in there himself.

Some fans also pointed out that all of Anthony's gifts for her were actually meant for Kate, like the horse ;)

Oh yes, watching Prudence is always funny! And yes, nobody ever listens to what Penelope has to say, poor girl.

I had no problem with Colin, but I actually thought Anthony and Benedict were the same person for two or three episodes :D I could only tell them apart because of the people they had scenes with. Now of course I can't believe there was a time I couldn't tell them apart. But apparently in the books they are described as very look alike.

Especially Eloise. I've read the actress who's playing her is 32, and I can truly believe Eloise is a teenager. Her acting is fantastic.

I heard about Benedict, there were hints about him being gay, but it looks like they won't lead anywhere. Maybe there was a change of heart between season 1 and 2 in the production, I don't know. I don't know much about what's next for Benedict - I know only a name - but I'm assuming a male love interest would be 100% the show creation.

Also apparently they have rushed ahead and already put some of Colin's story into this season - maybe fearing they might not get enough seasons to cover all books?
As far as I know, they have seasons three and four booked and that's what they are certain of. So I suppose they will cover Benedict, Colin and Eloise's stories in those two seasons and if they get more, they will focus on the remaining siblings.

I did not understand why they would intruduce one as Miss Sharma and the other as Miss Edwina Sharma. Why not also say Miss Kate Sharma?
I'm guessing, but I think using first names is too informal and you can only do it if it would create confusion otherwise. So Kate is a default "Miss Sharma" as the eldest and if you're speaking of Edwina you have to add her name. Daphne was "Miss Bridgerton" and Benedict is "Mister Bridgerton" since Anthony became Lord Brigderton, but Colin is "Mister Colin Bridgerton". It's how I understand it, I'm not sure it's true and the characters are adressed like that in the show.

Edwina was like a doll. Always saying the exact perfect things that were expected from her, and that were drilled into her.
Oh yeah, it's like she hasn't said anything honest to anyone but Kate before the failed wedding! She was like a perfectly trained pet. How could she manage the wild and spontanious Bridgerton siblings as the viscountess?

Some fans also pointed out that all of Anthony's gifts for her were actually meant for Kate, like the horse ;)
Absolutely! But when he sent Dorset for lemonade for Kate and Edwina, he took the one for Kate and drank it himself :D Poor Kate, can't have anything.
