I have four today, all from Angel's point of view. I'm not as happy with these as I should be. They just feel...off somehow. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy.
In the Den
Xander’s hair spread out, like a lion’s mane, over the pillow. Looking into his eyes, ferocious with hunger, Angel felt like Daniel: about to be devoured and dedicated, still, to his purpose.
He drove deeper into the man beneath him and was enveloped by a heat so intense, he thought he’d burn up with it. Xander’s eyes closed in ecstacy, and Angel heard a growl emit from deep within his throat.
Surrounded by the heat and the sound, for the first time, Angel felt like a lamb, nestled in the protection of a lion’s paws. It was the strangest sensation.
Parental Moment
Connor was wrapped up in his soft fleece blanket, warm and contented. His tiny pink face visible between the folds. Angel held him in his arms, a tiny lamb protected from the big bad wolf. Bright blue eyes looked up into his and frowned, so Angel shifted. His vampiric features guaranteed to being the curve of a smile to his son’s mouth.
Connor coo’ed as Angel nuzzled his fresh skin. “My lamb, my precious little lamb. Daddy’s going to take such good care of you, I promise.”
Downstairs, Wesley sat back, away from the desk, shaking his head in horror.
The Mighty Fall
Spike lay in the hospital bed, surrounded by sterile white cotton. His skin barely darker than the sheets. He was quiet, reflective, and Angel took note. Spike used to be a lion: hunting, roaring, rutting. Larger than life almost, feral.
Since he’d been back, though, the boisterousness had seemed fake, like he was still trying to find his place in the world he’d died to save. And now, his arms useless for the time being, Spike was subdued. He lay in bed like a lamb for slaughter, and Angel couldn’t stand it.
He missed his childe.
He missed the mighty.
The Ides
Even in L.A. March blew in with a gale. Angel stood on the roof of the Hyperion, looking out over the city. Red tail lights on the streets, moving like blood through the veins of the city, pulsing with the stop and start of traffic. If any city had a heartbeat, L.A. would be the one.
He could hear people below, walking, whispering, laughing, fucking in alleys. All lambs, all so vulnerable to the things they knew nothing about.
Dru and Darla were out there, as were Gunn, Wes, and Cordy. Lions after the lambs, and he their only protection.
