EXCEL (not the microsoft office product)

Aug 01, 2007 16:10

I've been attending this lovely little seminar/workshop run by the Flippen Group. It's called Capturing Kids' Hearts. Some useful tools, I've learned, and the one I like the best so far is the EXCEL model.
Engage, X-plore, Communicate, Empower, and Launch. Nifty stuff. Anyway.

In that vein, I post bearing memeage. As per sweptawaybayou

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random.
Whatever you like. (If you like. No pressure.)
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

1. What is the best experience you've had since you've been on live journal?

The best thing for me is rather general, because I don't interact on an individual basis the way a lot of my flist does. I rarey engage in IMing, or talking on the phone, most of my interaction is done through LJ comments and what not. So. The best thing for me, has been finding a community of smart, engaging people who are as insane about tv, characters, plot, writing, and gaining knowledge as I am. It's a beautiful thing to come online at night or whenever and meet people who are brilliant and funny, and want the people they associate with to be brilliant too. Everyone here - for the most part - wants everyone else to be better, and they try to help that along. Sure there are snags (hence the wankage) but overall, we want to have a community of excellence. That is just fuckin' awesome to me.

2. Do you consider yourself an emotional person? When was the last time you cried?

Hah. Umm, no. Not an emotional person at all. The last time I cried was at school, maybe the third month I was teaching. I broke down. I was exhausted, didn't know what the hell I was doing, and my students were catching on to that fact fast. I was losing them, and I didn't know how to get the momentum to swing back to me. It was really hard and frustrating, and terrifying. I broke down in lunch. That was in November of last year. I do NOT count crying at movies.

3. If you could move to any country, with a guaranteed income and a place to live ... where would you choose? Why?

Hmm. I'd choose some place politically stable - no need to be living through minirevolutions all the time. I choose someplace ruggedly beautiful. Rugged is something I like. I'm not a froufrou chick. I like things a little rough and dangerous. I choose some place cool where the AVERAGE temperature doesn't exceed 90 degrees. Somewhere near water, fresh or salt doesn't matter, but I have to have access to water (preferably blue water). I think maybe I'd choose Scotland. Rough land, chilly climate, friendly people. Yeah. That's where I'd go. Scotland.

4. What is your favorite day of the week?

Friday. Hands down. Last day of the school week, two free days afterward. Friday freakin' rocks.

5. Would you rather go to an Angel convention where lots of your flist from LJ will be, but your chances of actually meeting any of the stars from the show are slim to none ... or go to a, say, movie premiere where you have no friends to hang with, but you'll be sitting in the theater, in the same row, right beside Joss, David, Chris and Alexis?

If I were going to meet any of those guys, I'd want - no need - to have my friends around me, so I think I'd rather go to the convention. Also, the real thing rarely lives up to the fantasticl expectation. They're human beings with flaws and attributes and while I can acknowledge that, that's not why I like them. I like them because in some way or another, they're extraordinary and extraordinary is hard to maintain day in and day out in the face of fans, life, and everyday drugery. I'd much rather spend some quality time talking with my friends about the show, about the character, about the best fics or art and what those scenes/characters/lines mean to them. Give me the convention over the premier anyday.

Go for it, flisties! *loves*
