Fact of the Day: Barbie doll
Ruth Handler, co-founder of Mattel, invented the Barbie doll in 1959 and named her after her daughter, Barbara; Barbie's full, fictional name is Barbara Millicent Roberts. In her first year, 351,000 Barbie dolls sold for $3.00 each. If the Barbie doll were a real human, her measurements would be 36-18-33. The Ken doll, Barbie's boyfriend until 2004, was invented in 1961 and is named after Ruth's son. Barbie outsells Ken by a margin of almost two to one, with two Barbies being sold every second. Over the years, Barbie has had over 80 careers, even running as a presidential candidate in 1992. Her first job was a teenage fashion model.

The plastic world of busty women, polygamists, crazy reproduction, and too many jobs.
