Ooh, a dark ficlet, not what I was expecting! It's a 'bright morn,' but I had to go back and double-check about that, for by the end it feels like eerie evening with storm-clouds glowering in the distance. Beautiful descriptions and writing, though, and realistic reflections too. A lovely, atmospheric little piece!

I couldn't resist the juxtaposition of duel and birthday. The biogs never really make much of the episode in terms of how it affected him - but then, that's what fanfic writers are for! :))
