4:20 PM yesterday- "Hey Jason, I let's go to NYC."
...
"Barbara Morrison is playing and the show is sold out, but they have a waiting list."
...
"I promise it will be the best night ever!"
...
"Dont worry about unpacking. I know you just moved in 20 minutes ago, but your bed is setup correct?"
...
"Sweet! let's go. Shower quickly"
7:30PM we arrive at the venue way too early. When we ask the maitre d' where is the waiting list for the dance he looked at us like we were unclean and 'effing insane. So being very early for a dance which starts at 9:30, we head out for dinner. As we are leaving Barbra walks in the door carrying a box. We decide to help her move the rest of her stuff in. I knew it was going to be a good night when we helped her with her bags. We left for dinner and time square.
8:00PM We go back to the venue and put our names first on the We-just-created-it waiting list. We headed to Times Square to kill off an hr's worth of time before the dance. (they told us come back in an hr).
9:00PM We come back. They say come back in an hr. So we go to a pub just down the street from Madison garden^2. We have a few proper pints and watch some football.
10:00PM We come back. They say 30 min. But the band is not even completely setup. Dunkin Donuts.
10:30PM As the band starts their first song we get in. And from there the night was stellar.
I did get "put in my place by Steven Mitchell :). It was really busy there and barely enough room to swing out. I was dancing close to steve for a while. MY floor craft for that dance was particularly flawless. But we were competing for the same space, just like everyone else. Steve wanted to turn his follow and do something cool and during his set-up I happened to be there (justified and before anyone was there, and by usual patterns no one should have been there). But I got a hand on the arm kind of like a "quick stop" elbow grab and I was redirected in trajectory. It was soo smooth. It made my night to get "put in your place" by an expert.
In other news, I danced with Dawn Hampton again... It was freaking sweet! It was the most play I have gotten ever!(in a dance that is ;-)) She has so much sass. I did not have to do any super sweet moves, just playing around was more than enough. It was THE best dance of the night.
OH did I tell you that for most of the night I had Frankie, Dawn, and Steve staring me down... It seems people are afraid of dancing in front of gods. Since my shame button is smashed completely to hell, it really does not bother me, but it does mean there's a lot of room to dance in front of them. So that's where I camped out. Not to be noticed or anything like that, but because I could swing out and not worry about injuring anyone. Anywho they were chilling at their table and seeing the scenery. And as one does when dancing in a crowded space I glanced over at the table to see the 3 of them looking at my partners and myself. They had an air of approval in their visages. It made me fill warm and fuzzy to know that something they played around with at my age, I was playing around with, and they were not completely disgusted in the way their dance has turned out.
