I am a person with opinions. I tend to not hesitate to share them. Perhaps I should hesitate more often. But, seriously, don't bring up politics with me if you don't intend a rumble. fair warning.

... you do not make over $100,000 a year! Why you vote like you do???

One of the amazing things about politics is its ability to convince people to vote against their own self-interests. A particularly poignant example of this is people like the infamous Joe The Plumber, who is unlikely to ever make even 1/4 of the income that Obama was talking about taxing more heavily. Many Americans have a wildly optimistic view of how successful they're going to be, and when you vote based on how well you think you're going to do, you often end up hurting yourself.

I doubt any of those voters have thought it through that much. Remember that politics, especially right-wing American politics, is intensely emotional. It's all about hatered & fear of the gummint, liberal elites, and anyone who is Not One Of Us.

And fear, don't forget lots and lots of fear.

I make over $100,000 a year, and no way in hell will I ever vote for anyone who takes money from or writes thank-you notes to queer bashers.

John Dickinson once said, "Men would rather protect the possibility of becoming rich rather than face the reality of being poor." That was back in the late 1700's, and it's still true now. That's the best rationale I can see for that kind of behaviour.
