John Barrowman Book Signing

Feb 15, 2008 19:20

I met John Barrowman!!! He's nice and hansome and lovely, and he signed two books for me. I had planned something, but I got a bit of brain freeze upon him actually, genuinely being right there in front of me.

He said, "Hello, how are you?"
I said, "I'm fine thank you. I've brought you some wine gums. Do you want them?" I showed him the wine gums.
He said, "Thank you! If you give them to Anna, I'll have them on the way back to Cardiff."
I said, "Ok, great." I gave the wine gums to Anna, he gave my copy of his book to his sister.
I said, "Thank you very much." to him and moved along to his sister, Carole E Barrowman.

Carole was also very nice- she signed the book very fast but then instead of just giving it straight back to me and ushering me away, like I expected, she actually started talking to me, which surprised me a little since I was still suffering from brain freeze due to proximity to her brother.
She said, "Do you live around here?"
I said, [faintly baffled as I hadn't been meaning to talk to her and didn't think she would start talking to me] "Um, yes, I'm from Oxford. It's a really lovely place."
She said, "Yes, it is. We've just been having a little look around."
Then I nodded and smiled and she gave me my copy of the book  and then I moved away and turned around to take more photos of my friends.

I intended to write the whole saga, but I'm quite tired, so I'll shorten it. We got there at 3:10, Mrs W was there and teased me a little but said she would like to have been able to go, I buckled and bought another book, S said she would buy some of it for me as a birthday present, we joined the queue, waiting in Dogs/Gardening, we chatted, C, J and A turned up very briefly, the woman gave us postits, H moaned about were circulation, H and I went to Sainsbury's to buy some food and water [we bought way too much] and I bought John Barrowman some wine gums. We went to the Works to buy postits but there weren't any, so we went to Smiths, then we went back to Borders, and we ate some food and chatted, and also chatted a bit to the girl next to us about John and about David Tennant also, then they forced us to stand up, which was cruel and unusual, and we saw a kid dressed as a dalek, and the started saying that he had arrived and we cheered and screamed for a bit even though he wasn't actually there, and then we were trying to figure out where he would come from and where he would go, and there were a couple of false starts but then he was then and we all cheered and screamed a bit more, and then the queue moved way faster than I had been expecting and I kept trying to crane around crowds to see him, and then the lady said I could actually get both of the books signed, not just one, which was annoying because I didn't really want two but then I saw him and my brain stated to freeze so I just went along with what was going on and started taking photos and then I was there, right in front of him, and it was great. That wasn't that short was it. Oh well. Anyway, we were queuing for about 2hrs and 20mins before he got there and then only for about 5mins once he arrived- we were leaving the shop 15mins after he started signing. The queue behind us was satisfyingly massive.

After we got our books signed we all hung around for a bit taking as many photos as we could before the staff told us to move on. And I saw the kid dressed as a dalek and I politely asked his mum if I could take a photo of him since he was so adorable and she was very nice and said yes.
