So yesterday was beyond amazing.
Picked up Cati and met Jenna and her mom on the train, where we (minus Jenna's mom) proceeded to talk really loudly and stuff. Randomly met Keah and her sister on the train, and squeezed all 5 of us into a 4-seat section, talked really loudly and obnoxiously about less than PG things, and got dirty looks from the people around us.
Then got into Grand Central and decided to go down to the Village.
Took a subway down (Cati's first!) and then walked around trying to find somewhere to eat. We ended up meeting Jenna's mom somewhere after walking around in circles for about an hour and a half (and spotting 10 sex stores along the way). Ate food, then went back uptown for the show!
Sweeney Todd was the most incredible production I have seen in YEARS. It was absolutely perfect. I could go on for hours about what I loved about it, and I still wouldn't be done. Every single person in the cast was amazingly in character and invested in the story 100% of the time, even when they were just playing their instruments and not involved in the scene at all. It was creepy and dark and compelling and PERFECT. I don't think I snapped back into reality at all the entire time. And being in the front row was incredible. I want to see it again.... but it closes next week. sdlfhasldfhlkjsd. We'll see.
Vocally, Manoel Felciano and Diana DiMarzio impressed me the most. Every time they opened their mouths..... wow. Acting-wise, I LOVED Manoel and Lauren Molina, and also Michael Cerveris, and Patti LuPone (!!!), and Alex Gemignani, and just... EVERYONE. Holy crap.
Then we went to Little Italy for dessert and then came home. And talked about the show the entire ride. =D
I love this. It's shows like that that make theatre amazing.
