I find this concept of paying him back very cute but also somewhat silly for a couple that has been together as long as you two have. :P

That's cute. Kevin and I will have similar conversations about him paying for something and of course I chime in and say something about how it's a joint account and all the same money.

It would be silly except that he's on very tight finances and facing another round of huge medical bills whenever the insurance companies get done refusing to pay for anything. We share household expenses but he has always been very stubborn about keeping other things separated.

I still find it odd considering how long you two have been a couple. Our finances have been intermingled for years. It was only last year that I actually got two bank accounts that were in my name only. That got a raised eyebrow from the mate.

If the state would recognize our joint property, and give us spousal legal rights, it would be different. But they will not, which complicates everything.
