Jeanee and I had planned to watch
Never Let Me Go today. But we had to scrap that arrangement last night, because Jeanee discovered that the movie is on limited release and will not be showing in the Bay Area for some time. We were acutely disappointed, having looked forward to the movie all week. But we rallied around, and agreed to postpone our arrangement till a more favorable date. In the meantime, we decided to go to the Chabot College Flea Market.
Before driving out to Hayward, we had brunch at
Blue Dot Cafe. I had a wonderful time! The food was delicious (esp. the spinach strata, which was delight itself), and the conversation bubbled with warmth and cheer. Jeanee is such a charming girl; soft-spoken, but full of laughter and thoughtfulness and a fancy for the artistic. I think it's so cool that she studied English (like me!), has traveled extensively, takes photos with a vintage
Lomo, and has a soft spot for modern poetry.
Once we were happily fed, we drove to Chabot College for the flea market. It wasn't a jam-packed affair like I was expecting, but the lot was plenty full with vendors offering a variety of goods for sale: vintage purses, old audio cassettes, household cleaning products, handmade jewelry, used watches, old coins, and other odds and ends. To echo Jeanee, being at the market was like being at an extensive garage sale. There was truly an eclectic collection of stuff about (of which Jeanee did a much better job of photodocumenting,
here).
