I had a friend point this out to me today, and felt that everyone else (at least those who are interested) should have the opportunity.

I love Dr Who.

So what can I say about this?

Well, firstly, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I wish it were better than it is, though.

My immediate reaction is that the quality of the animation is matched only by the artistry of the writing.

I've watched the first three episodes and I'm fairly appalled by the cliche and silliness. Alan Barnes is clearly not an SF writer (or much of any other kind of writer IMO) Still, that's somewhat in the Dr Who tradition from a certain point of view, and the cartoon's obviously pitched at kids...

I can only hope that the genius of Steven Moffat (The Empty Child, Girl in the Fireplace, The Doctor Dances, Blink) is given more air time in the upcoming fourth season of Dr Who. And particularly, that Davies and Chibnell ease off on their contributions. Frankly I'm looking forward to RTD's retirement from Dr Who; in the hands of someone who writes SF rather than soaps, it could be a fantastic series instead of a merely good one.

By the way, if you haven't seen it already, I heartily recommend Steven Moffat's miniseries "Jekyll". The acting is remarkable (if somewhat over the top in parts), and the writing is excellent. Notably superior to Chris Chibnell's Torchwood & Dr Who scripts in every conceivable way.

You may be interested to know that Steven Moffat has also written for "Coupling", "Press Gang", and "Dr Who and the Curse of Fatal Death". In my opinion, he's the most talented writer working on Dr Who today by a long margin.
