Day 3: Inconveniences

Apr 26, 2008 14:15

Characters: Jade Curtiss, AU Guy
Location: On route to Guy's Manor
Time: Day 3, late afternoon
Warnings: None.

It had been very kind of Guy to offer up his manor to house the alternate versions of people, if you defined 'kind' as 'adj., annoyed, resigned' and 'offer up' as 'v., to grudgingly carry out a direct if not yet fully official order.' Guy knew ( Read more... )

An alternate universe.

Gailardia thought he'd taken the bizarre turn of events in stride, all things considered, but internally he was perfectly willing to admit that he was still reeling from the idea. He supposed he should be grateful that this world was so similar to his own, but at the same time, that just made things, well, weirder. For minutes at a time he could actually forget what had happened before something jarred him back to reality. Something like being told that the manor he was supposed to be staying at belonged to-- himself ( ... )

(OOC: Presumably Gailardia's going to be in his God-General outfit, yes?)

Jade heard the sounds of sword practice long before he was able to see it, but he didn't think particularly anything of it until he passed the threshold of the gates leading in to the Gardios Manor and saw Guy's alternate form there.

Well. That made things less convenient. Fortunately, there were plenty of guards present, and the possibility of one of the alternates having conked them out and/or murdered them and taken their place was minuscule. All the same, Jade approached one guarding the front door, and after a brief Q&A session, gave him orders to pass the data fondisc on to Count Gardios, and no one else, within.

The guard rushed to fulfill those orders, and after Jade told the other guard to remain at his post and suffered a salute, he turned and began to walk away.

"Good evening, Gailardia," he said casually as he passed the God-General training in the courtyard. "Isn't it a little early for post-dinner sword practice?"

((That would be correct!))

Gailardia smoothly finished another sweep of his sword before sheathing it. "Actually," he said with a faint smile, stretching his arms over his head, "I haven't even eaten yet. Colonel Curtiss, isn't it?"

His encounters with his own universe's Colonel were restricted entirely to the times Asch had faced off against the Replica's group, but even those few meetings had been enough to make him wary of the man. Dist's constant ramblings about the Colonel were probably mostly delusional, but he could at least be relied upon to accurately gauge the technical abilities of others, and according to him Jade was a force to be reckoned with.

Best to stay friendly and see where things went from there.

"I thought so. Yes, that's correct," Jade said pleasantly, matching smile for smile. The other version of Guy was as skilled a swordsman as the original--and still used the same style of swordsmanship as well. Not a version of Guy who mystically didn't grow up on Hod or some other nonsense...though really, Jade already knew better. It was just a bit a sarcasm self-indulgence.

"May I ask how you are finding your accommodations? I realize it must be strange to be staying in the manor of someone who is essentially yourself," the Colonel continued. "Even if he is, in fact, not yourself. I've already met an alternate version of myself, so I assure you I already realize just how much of a headache it is."

((...I just realized I'm not sure what information Guy would have given out about his background. WHOOPS. I'd better make a post on the main community asking what guards would have gotten out of people, since Jade's supposed to have gathered that information. C_C If Guy would be keeping his God-General allegiance secret like AU!Jade did ( ... )

"Let's just say it's not something I'm going to get used to anytime soon," Gailardia said with a bit of a sigh. His smile turned wry. "I thought maybe I'd end up being comfortable around, you know, myself, but it turned out to be just... weird."

So there was another Colonel running around, too. Huh. He still wasn't entirely sure how many people had been pulled from their own universes, and who they were, so that was a fact to be noted.

"Although I didn't strike a conversation up with you with the intention of empathizing with your plight, I find I must admit that I know exactly how you feel," Jade replied with an exaggerated sigh and a wide-armed shrug. "Well, I suppose we'll both simply have to deal with it. Though I imagine I have the advantage on account of this being my home turf, so to speak," he added brightly ( ... )

"... Azkeriuth," Gailardia said after a bit of a pause. It wasn't exactly a pleasant memory-- Luke's desperate attempts to warn the Replica away, Van's uncaring sacrifice of an entire city of people, the screams and the crater--

He shook his head as though to clear it. "I'm pretty sure I already mentioned that, though. But I guess you've had a lot going on."

Consistent. Check. And, as Jade listened to Gailardia further, he maintained his smiling expression. Given how he responded, it seemed like this Guy didn't know him very well at all. Another check. And it seemed like he was less than enthusiastic about the events of Akzeriuth, implying that he was either against at least certain details of Van's plans or he hadn't been aware that that had been his intentions. Either way, it could be useful ( ... )
