Day 3: An Accidental Lunch Date

Asch sat at the table, regarding the elegantly-assembled dish -- taken down to its most basic elements it was chicken, potatoes, and green beans, which she might have eaten any day, but cooked the way it had been and arranged so tastefully on the dish made it somehow different. This wasn't the sort of meal they served to soldiers in Daath. It was the sort of meal they made for nobles.
And she was almost reluctant to touch the food for that exact reason.
She looked around warily at the dining hall, empty except for the pair of guards lining the doorway, and then back at the food. Ironically, it helped to think of herself as largely a prisoner who happened to be kept in the home of a noble, and that the refined cooking was for him, but then it only further complicated the issue to think that Guy was the noble -- Guy, Count of Hod, just the way Van had always said he should be.
She brushed her hair back behind her ears and reached for a fork. Thinking wouldn't feed her, and she had no desire to starve herself to death.
