May 31, 2009: the day I became almost completely convinced that I have just about the only three year old that uses the word "frustrated" on a fairly regular basis... and uses it CORRECTLY.
It's a Sunday night, and due to an unforeseen series of events, my daughter is getting to bed really late. It's almost 10:00 pm as I'm getting her settled down. It's time for stories, and she wants two books. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not going to deny her this. She picks one, and I start reading.
"Noooooo!" she protests. "I want the OTHER book first."
*SIGH* She did this to me a night or two ago. Over-tired and delaying her bed time, she switched books back and forth on me three or four times before I had had enough. Isn't she TIRED? I know I am! All I want to do is go to bed!
But, I switch books, explaining to her as calmly and firmly as I can that we will read this other book first, but that's IT. We will not be switching back and forth a whole bunch of times. Once we start this book, that's what we're reading.
At which point, my three year old daughter looks at me very calmly and says: "You're getting frustrated."
*sigh*
she was right, of course....
