yes, my parents are older, too. Mother will be 80 in July 2009, and Dad will be 79. My sister has primary care of both, but believe me it often takes two of us to make sure both parents are covered and tended to the way they need to be. Hang in there!!
I'm sure my sister thinks the same thing about me now and then. She lives in Dallas, and I'm in a suburb between Dallas and Fort Worth. It's 30 minutes to her place if there's no traffic, which isn't impossible, but far enough away I can't really just jaunt back and forth as often as I think she'd like. But when the need arises (and lately it often does), we manage to tag team things fairly well. Do you think if you called your sister she would come? Like to take a turn taking your dad to a doctor's appointment or something? My own sister accidently double-booked an orthopedic appt with my niece's orthodontist appt not long ago... she had to leave dad by himself for a little bit (not wise for long since he's had a major stroke and can't talk), so I met mom at the doctor (to make sure we got all the instructions right), then checked in on dad till his speech therapist got there, then went into work. Thank goodness for flesible and understanding bosses!!! Just wondering if your sis would do likewise for you now and then....
I agree with you that if she's in town she could at least drop by.... I don't have much reason to drive into Dallas, so usually when I go I'm going TO see everybody - but rarely am I there when I just don't go over at all. In fact, I need to see about working remotely tomorrow.... my sister took my dad on a road trip, and mom is in rehab so she is looked after, but she only has a cell phone and she doesn't know how to use it (although we've tried to teach her and make it as easy as possible). Anyway, I've called to check on her, but she's not picking up the phone. I really think she just doesn't know how. So I need to just go over there tomorrow, work from her room and make sure she's doing OK
