And so repairs have begun at the homestead. And not a moment too soon! Long story short, within the last week we've come across some most unwelcome visitors! We had rats in the attic a couple months back. Not unusual, as our property contains part of a creek, and the weather has been cold. So the exterminators came and baited the attic. The bait was supposed to drive the rats out of the attic and toward water. And... I guess it worked. I mean, if they work their way from the attic down through your wall and chew TWO holes THROUGH THE SHEETROCK underneath your kitchen sink... well, they have moved toward water, haven't they?

The exterminators said they could patch all the entry points they found in about 2 hours... for a paltry sum of $270 AN HOUR. Riiiiiiiiiight. I'm so in the wrong business. I've added the hole patching to the list for my handyman, who is a wonderful, kind man who doesn't take blatant advantage of people, and so will make a few thousand dollars off of us by the time everything is said and done, and the house is patched and painted and brought up to par.

So check it out... AS the exterminators are examining my house trying to figure out how to get rid of the rats... here comes my realtor. NICE. But hey... at least she knows we're getting some things fixed and taking care of the rodent issue, right? And apparently, we're the first ones to do so. The exterminators found six possible entry points for rats, one of which was on the fix-it list, one of which I found under the kitchen sink, and FOUR that were construction gaps! Which means they've been there about 30 years. But I digress. The realtor came in, and we walked the house, and talked about some various things that might best be done before a sale.

Of course, she suggested repainting Sarah's room.

And I know it's probably very stupid, but I'm ATTACHED to Sarah's room, just like it is. I remember being so excited by the idea of it, even before I knew it would be a nursery. It was a fun project then, and it was fun being right when it transitioned flawlessly into a perfect, probably-never-before-seen-or-if-so certainly-rarely-seen nursery theme. :)

And so, the following conversation takes place:

(2:29:15 PM) Ben: do we need the interior painted too?
(2:29:28 PM) Jen: no, not all of it
(2:29:41 PM) Jen: sunroom, kitchen, laundry room are all fine
(2:29:54 PM) Jen: baths should be fine, our room should be fine
(2:30:09 PM) Jen: Sarah's mural will have to go. :(
(2:30:21 PM) Jen: *sniffle* :(
(2:30:44 PM) Ben: no
(2:30:49 PM) Ben: leave that up
(2:31:03 PM) Ben: I promise that if someone's interested, a little mural won't dissuade them.

How grateful and how perfectly in love I am with my spouse for that statement. Silly. Sappy. WAY sentimental. But there ya have it....
