Hopefully you'll like the story. Please send me feedback so that I know what you like (or not) and how I can improve.

Rating: for now PG (I'm not really sure which rating it should have) can go up to NC-17 in the future
Summary: After sending Willow and Giles to England for Willows recovery, Xander disappears. Roughly 500 years into the future he is once again found, but has difficulties to remember his past or where he has bee. And what has happened to the Earth that is so different than the one he can remember?
Disclaimer: Everything related to the shows belong to there respective owners (not me), the rest comes from my imagination

Prologue

Xander was exhausted. He had just seen Giles and Willow off at the LA airport, where they took a flight to England. Giles had told them that he knew a place where Willow could get help and Xander hoped it would help her because they didn’t know what else to do to keep her from the brink of total depression. But Xander didn’t expect to get his old Willow back, things like losing the other half of your soul and flay the skin of someone, had a tendency to change people.

He parked the car outside his apartment but remained seated without stepping out. Xander hadn’t been alone since the event on Kingman’s Bluff, always being with Willow or Buffy or Dawn trying to stay strong for their sake. They needed him to lean on, although he himself didn’t have the luxury to fall apart and find some kind of comfort. He had been sleep deprived even longer than he had been alone and every muscle in Xander’s body hurt. Finally he stepped out of the car and with heavy steps made way to his apartment.

The hall was quiet as he walked to his front door, keys already ready in his hand. Anything to ease his way to the bed where had made an appointment to pass out. As he approached his door he noticed it was slightly ajar and he couldn’t stifle the sight he let out or the thought of why he could not have one lousy night without some kind of problem. Reaching for the knife that he always carry along with him along with a stake he continued forward though with more carefulness than earlier.

He couldn’t hear any sound the apartment so with alight touch he pushed the door open to look inside. Not sensing nor hearing anything he reached out and turned on the lights not really stepping through the door just in case he was wrong and someone was still there. When nothing happened Xander relaxed a little and walked inside but as soon as he rounded the corner into the living room he froze.

In front of him stood what he only could describe as an elf-like creature. It was about his height with long wavy hair hanging reaching his tights. The creature was definitely male because even tough he was vary slander he had broad across the shoulders and the thin tunic he wore did little to hide any part of his body. His skin was lightly bronzed, but seemed to be glowing lighting up his face that had that fair beauty you could find in portraits made of the elves. He had his arm reached out in front of him with open palm facing up not moving a muscle as Xander examined him. When Xander finally looked into his eye the creature began to speak with a soft voice the slightly reminded him of the breeze in a forest or at sea.

“Child, Gaia is expecting you and I am here to take you home”

Right from the first word Xander felt apprehension but felt powerless to do anything. And so all he could do was to look at the creature as he brought his palm to his lips and blew. Some kind of dust made its way flying to Xander and his last thought (as everything began to blacken out) was;

“Seems I came in time for my appointment with the passing out.”

Part 1

The two scouts were complaining between themselves as they made way to the area where the sensors had picked up the anomaly 10 minutes ago. They thanked the powers for small favors as it was night and they didn’t need to wear the protective gear for day. That outfit was heavy, uncomfortable and awkward to move in and would have made their walk outside the city walls that more unpleasant. Without the deadly rays of day to worry about the only necessary equipment they needed to use were the oxygen-supply masks.

The night was clear with a full moon that illuminated with harsh light the ruins on the wasteland before them. There was a slight breeze this night but aside from that everything was deserted, you could hear no sounds and see no movement. Looking at the small digital screen in his hand one of the scouts began moving left with careful steps through the remaining rubble of a destroyed world. The main roads had been cleaned of debris for a couple of centuries now, for those who traveled the old fashion way instead of the magic way. But if you strayed from these roads the inhospitable surroundings that were the wasteland made the journey a lot harder.

Seeing on their screens that they were near the indicated place the scouts began to search more diligently with their flashlights.

“There is nothing here Rey, nothing strange here everything is as the rest of the planet, dead and buried. Lets get back, the wind is picking up and I don’t want to go back to the city during a samiel.” He was referring to the big dust storms that now frequently wrecked havoc the planet. If by any chance you were outside the city and got caught by a samiel the chances to return inside the city or stay just stay alive were very slim.

“Yeah, you’re right, let’s return to the city.” Rey answered and began to make his way back to the main road. It was then that for a split second something glimmered in the light of his flashlight. “Wait a second I thing I may have found something” Rey began to carefully sweep every place in front of him with his flashlight, trying to find that glimmer again. And finally he finds it and begins to slowly move forward to the object and when he reaches he lets out a soft curse.

“What is it? Have you found something?”

“Yeah you better come here and look.” Rey crouched down beside the object waiting for the other scout to reach him. He could hear him as he walked up behind him and by the soft gasped ‘holy fuck’ Rey new exactly when the other got a good look at what lay by their feet.

Obscure partially of what once was a wall, laid a creature that seemed to be mostly long wavy hair and dirt. On closer inspection you could see long slender limbs that that all were curled up in a natal position and what could be a male face under all that hair. The scouts had nearly missed this because the person was dirty from head to toe and what wasn’t covered in dirt a body suit that the person was wearing simulated its surroundings, making it impossible to see the difference between the ground and the body. The faint rise and fall the chest indicated that the person was breathing and alive but by any other accounts he was asleep or more likely unconscious.

“You think he’s one of the great unwashed?” Rey’s companion asked as he crouched beside him. He was referring to the humans of lower class than them. These humans refused to work independently or work and affiliate to one of the houses. They often lived in the buildings near the wall of the east side of the city, or where sheltered by the humans and demons alike who by some notion felt pity or sympathy with them.

“Not likely” he answered as he reached out with a hand to uncover the face before he continued “One; he isn’t totally human. If you hadn’t notice he is breathing without problems and without any type of oxygen-supply. And two; he’s wearing the mark of the head house.” He was referring to the golden symbol hanging from an equally golden chain around the slender throat. Rey’s twin sister Reina, who worked for the lead house, sometimes told him about the agents working for the masters. They would appear and disappear with even intervals, always distinguished by a golden chain and symbol showing their alliance. It was said that these agents goal was to find a way to restore the planets former atmosphere and environment.

“He’s seem to be one of those restoration agent. Something most likely went wrong when he tried to teleport inside the city, landing outside instead of inside of the city perimeter.” It was uncommon that it happened but not unheard of. Having made up his mind Rey picked up the body that weighted less than he thought and began once again making his way to the city, his fellow scout walking a few steps behind. Rey was certain that once they got to the lead house his sister could get this person inside and cleaned up and most of all, that the house of Aurelius would be more then glad to have their agent back.

If they had been able to see a couple of feet under the ground where the body had laid, they would have noticed a single seed of some undefined verdure slowly begin to sprout. This seed died a couple of hours after the scouts left with the body. The ground was too poisonous for it to lay any kinds of roots. But even though it died it was an event short of a miracle because it was the first seed to begin to grow outside the walls of the protected city in over two hundred years.
