To catch others up on the story, the previous thread went like:
ME: you now you helped inspire me. right?
HER: I had no idea. But I'm glad I could help! :)
The thing is,she is not be publicly humble. This is who my friend is.
imaginarycanary writes the most amazing poetry -- can capture time, place, feeling, moment and WHAM you are in it with her.
She does not speak in generalities or write Hallmark Moments (definition? something designed to go for a general emotional reaction in 90% of us rather than specifically wrought of a particular time and place).
She has a woman's voice to her writing. Sometimes she speaks for herself, sometimes it seems like someone finally put the essence of woman into letters and pauses and silences and words and quietly tossed it out there for everyone who will hear.
And I do mean quiet. Seldom does she seem to post her gifts in live journal these days, and that is nothing but a dang shame.
Guys -- want to understand women a bit better? Read imaginarycanary's stuff. Ask her questions about it when she shares in live journal or better yet, share it with your sig other, best female friend, sister and yeah, your mother maybe. Ask them what they get out of it. You never know -- you might find a sense of understanding or intimacy growing from such a discussion that you never dreamed of.
Gloriously, there are differences not only between people, but man and woman --- and I am not just talking the sex thing here. imaginarycanary writes with a woman's voice. I would love it if someone would share a current poet who writes with a man's voice. I want to hear, to understand, to ponder and to celebrate differences.
As for imaginarycanary . . . you tore up roots, moved across country not knowing who was with you and who was not, all for your need to give it a chance, to improve, to explore, to become the best writer that you can be. It might not all have worked out like you hoped, but there is a new depths since you went, a varied richness to the spells you create. You are deftly swirling maturity into the blend with the girl.
Besides that, have you forgotten the travel talks when we made a two hour trip into three cause we forgot to look for the exit? Politics and the environment, humanity in general and writing -- you encouraged me, challenged me and most of all, believed. So now it is my turn to eek out the education, the contacts, those wonder pink slips (or have they changed colors) that mean no publishing.
I am ready to tackle this fear and jump head first into the risk of it -- yeah, I said head first cause I am committed to the point of breaking my neck lafffff.
(OK-- here's the fun part. If we were all flies on the wall, we would get to see imaginarycanary blush and laugh this next one off. However, its my blogg, and she can't tell me to be quiet!)
When you share your work, girrlfriend, I feel like this is what it must have been like for Maya Angelou's friends to watch her occasionally shared writings become a solid definitive voice.
For me, the works that are important, creative, mesmerizing and contemplative, the poetry I find myself rereading for delight or understanding are by my favorites: Dr Angelou, e e cummings, Will Shakespeare and imaginarycanary.
And you can shush up cause it's my opinion and, remember, you are the one who keeps telling me that it counts too.
Besides, I want to be able to brag, "Yeah, the US Poet Laurette? My friend. She use to post in LJ."
;P
