I finally have the time and energy to post! So here we go...

Title: I Know You Know I Know
Artist: Tex Perkins (and the Dark Horses?)
Link: Linky
Genre: Dark, cigarette and bourbon roughened late night blues of an Australian kind
Description: I think I just kind of did that...ah well. Tex Perkins started his career as the hard drinkin, hard livin vocalist of the Beasts of Bourbon, mellowed slightly when he met The Cruel Sea, and mellowed once more in his old age until we come to the era this song is from, when he was found mostly playing dark smoky bars with his Dark Horses. It's a brilliantly emotional and yet restrained song, summing up perfectly the point in a relationship where it's all totally fucked and you know it, and all that's left to do is figure out some way to end it.
File format: mp3

Title: Don't You Know Who I Am?
Artist: Happyland
Link: Linky
Genre: Uuuuuuh. Wow. Um, electronica?
Description: Bitchy and incredibly catchy, great for when you have headphones on and people are getting in your face. Happyland are a kind of a spin off from both Regurgitator and Spiderbait, in a convoluted sort of way. I always wished they'd released more stuff.
File format: mp3

Title: Take
Artist: John Butler Trio
Link: Linky
Genre: Tree Huggin Hippy Folk Rock
Description: To be honest, I got really tired of hearing about John Butler and his trio only a short time into thier rein as Triple J golden children, but I went back and listened to this song again and realised there's actually a REASON they were popular in the first place. This song is tight, energetic, almost gypsy-ish folk rock.
File format: mp3

Title: A Punk Named Josh
Artist: Chopper One
Link: Linky
Genre: Punk. Simple, straight down the line, trashy, punk.
Description: Sure, it might not be the world's best song on technicalities, but I love it just because it's so much fun...and maybe just a little because at the time I first heard it, I happened to be dating a "punk named Josh, and he really was an arsehole." *giggle*
Warnings: Some swearing, but nothing that wouldn't be allowed on TV
File format: mp3

Title: Careless
Artist:Paul Kelly
Link: Linky
Genre: I guess the best thing I can think of is Urbane Folk, like Billy Bragg. Although Paul Kelly's voice is a bit more...aesthetically pleasing. *grin*
Description: Despite never really getting anywhere for any length of time in the Australian industry, I have a lot of time for Paul Kelly. His songwriting is sensitive, honest, rollicking and catchy. This is a kind of sad, kind of happy song about pushing people away, and trying to get them back again.
File format: mp3

Title: Apple Eyes
Artist: Swoop
Link: Linky
Genre: Australian Modern Disco...no seriously.
Description: Swoop were a totally crazy, but totally loveable bunch of loonies who ran around in capes and platform heels and zip up spandex suits long before the Darkness made it "ironic". This song is a guaranteed pick me up for me, no matter what.
File format: mp3

While I'm here, a couple of more things...
a) If anyone has any Skunkhour, particuarly "We're Up To Our Necks In It", I would love worship and adore them forever.
b) I recall someone wanted The Mavis's - Naughty Boy...if they're still looking for it, let me know and I'll rip the album
c) I seem to have FAR too much good Australian music on CD, so bringing up this topic when I'm in the middle of a ripping spree was foolishness, sheer foolishness. Now you shall all be spammed.
