Chapter 21: Fall of the Akumas
Yabu brought Ayame to his mansion to stay overnight, not wanting to let her older brother see the faint bruises that she had on her arms and legs. “So Ayame is with you?” Sho’s worried voice could be heard clearly.
“Yes, she’s going to stay at my place for tonight.” Yabu assured Sho, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of her.”
”Uh, Wait!” Sho exclaimed before Yabu could hang up, “There’s something that you need to know!”
Slowly, Yabu brought the phone to his ear, “Yes…?”
“Ayame… she needs to sleep with the light on… and you’ll have to stay beside her until she falls asleep otherwise she’ll start screaming.” Sho explained earnestly.
“Actually…” Yabu replied, “There’s something that I would like to know. Why does Ayame behave like a little kid?”
“Well…She was adopted by my parents… and both of them passed away in a car crash when she was six and it had left her very much traumatized.” Sho explained, “That bunny was the only thing that her biological mother had left her with so she’s very protective about it. After the accident, she was unwilling to talk... I was rather frustrated at first because I won’t know what she wants exactly, but then after several years, she gradually opened up.”
“So…” Yabu concluded, “As compared to before, she’s actually better now?”
“Yes… well, I’m leaving Ayame in your care then.” Sho said before hanging up the phone.
‘So… she’s NEARLY like Inoo…’ Yabu thought as he walked over to his black couch, staring gloomily at the overcast sky, thinking about the rest of the Akumas.
Ayame had changed into Yabu’s long sleeved shirt and pants as her pajamas… it was comfortable and warm though a bit too loose for her. Ayame walked over to Yabu and stood beside him before she said in a small, timid voice, “Thank you… for helping me.”
“I shouldn’t have helped you.” Yabu muttered with gritted teeth as he crushed a photo of him and Takaki, “Because of you… I fell out with my friends!” he raised his voice a little at the already frightened Ayame, pushing himself out of his couch, “Because of you, I don’t know who I am anymore…”
Hot tears stung his eyes and rolled down his cheeks like endless streams of rivers, “Because of you…” he sobbed, shutting his eyes, “everything is messed up…”
His tears were wrenching her already aching heart and slowly, she reached out a hand to caress his face, gently wiping away his tears with her thumb, “I’m sorry…” Ayame whispered, “I’m sorry…”
Yabu made a sudden move to take her into his arms and held her there as he lost control of his emotions, letting the tears pour out like the rain that was dripping onto his window and revealing the weak side of him to someone he once thought that he would never would.

“Ohayo….” Daiki greeted in a soft murmur when he entered the clubhouse and continued to text Mira.
“Ohayo gozaimasu.” Hikaru and Takaki replied solemnly, neither of them looking happy with the state of things.
“I hope that things between you and Aki are going to end soon… it’s been 3 months… longer than most of your relationships?” Takaki muttered as he looked out of the window, gazing at the clusters of students at the field, “Or… are you thinking of something else…? Are you confident of her not hurting you?”
Daiki’s heart skipped a beat as he thought, Takaki is right… I’m not confident enough to think that she will not hurt me…
“Dai-Chan?” Hikaru waved his hand in front of Daiki’s face, “What are you thinking of? Takaki was asking you a question…”
“Huh?” Daiki exclaimed, “Oh… uh… I’m planning to break up with her… soon.”
The remaining Akumas were hurt, upset and frightened in a certain way that sent tremors throughout the campus. Everyone, including the teachers, approached them with cautious, afraid that they would step on a landmine… all of them were afraid of them, except for one… Erika. “Erika-Sama… should we do it now?” Haruka asked her leader.
“No… there’s one more person missing…” Erika muttered, “Karina-San… looks like I’ll have to call her myself. She’s been waiting to patch up with dear Akuma Yabu…”
“Erika-Sama… looks like Megumi has been in your favor ever since she joined us… providing us information about the girls that hurt them the most and all…”
“Yes…” Erika grinned, “Even though she said that she just wants to make them face the truth… I think it’s just an excuse to get her revenge. She’s nowhere better than us.”

“Yabu… Phone.” Inoo said, snapping Yabu out of his dream and turning his attention to his ringing phone.
“Kota desu…” Yabu answered casually but his face changed immediately when he heard the familiar voice over the phone, “It’s you…” he muttered.
“I need to talk to you…” Karina said over the phone, “can we meet now?”
“Inoo…” Yabu said as he packed his stuff hurriedly, “Send Ayame home for me… I need to do something.”
“Karina?” Inoo asked, stopping Yabu from leaving, “Going back to Karina?”
Yabu felt a pang of guilt just as Ayame reached his classroom, staring quietly at him and Inoo, “Just… help me send Ayame home.” Yabu tried to avoid the topic and dashed out of the classroom in a hurry.
Ayame was about to go after Yabu when Inoo held her by the elbow and said, “Let him go.”
“Baka Inoo…” Takaki muttered under his breath as he watched from behind the wall, “If you just let him go off like that… I can not imagine what will happen…”
“I’ll go after him.” Daiki suggested, “Didn’t you say that you have something to do?”
“Uh… yeah.” Takaki replied, “I’ll call you later...”
Rushing off to the same spot where he always replies to Megumi’s letters, he saw that Megumi was waiting for him… and he waited patiently for her to go home before he peeked beneath that very pebble for her letter.
Yu-Kun. Sometimes I wonder… can an Akuma be a kind person as well? I keep thinking of Takaki even though it’s Yamapi that‘s next to me… but there’s no way for me to go near Takaki. He won’t answer my calls, he won’t reply to my mails and he distances himself when we’re in school. I wish that I could let him know that I really did not lie to the Akumas… I really wish that I can help them.
“You just want us to face the cold, hard and terrible truth.” Takaki muttered with gritted teeth as he crushed the letter with his hands and threw it into the lake, “You’re evil, Megumi…”

“EXTRAS!!!! EXTRAS!!!!” Haruka hollered at the gathering crowd in front of her, “The Akumas are two-timing again!!!! Can you guys take it!? Isn’t it about time these pretty boys stop what they are doing!?”
“What’s going on?” Takaki muttered when they saw the throng of people gathering in front of the school’s notice board and walked over, “Who took these photos…?” he asked angrily and glared at the schoolmates around him.
“What’s wrong?” Yabu, who also came into the school around that time, noticed the commotion and stepped in along with Megumi who was right behind him.
Megumi’s jaw dropped when she saw the photographs that the Anti Akuma Clique had taken and pasted onto the school’s notice board. At this time, when everyone was silent, the principal just stood gaping at the notice board. “Do I have to repeat myself!?” Takaki asked again, louder this time, “WHO TOOK THESE PHOTOS!?”
“I took them.” A familiar voice spoke and stood in front of Takaki who tore the photographs down and threw them in her face, “SOMEBODY has to show these people who you guys truly are… and I think that I’ve done the right thing.”
“Aki…” Daiki whispered when he saw Aki staring at him, loss for words.
“Daiki and his first love... along with Aki.” Erika provoked, “Yabu and Karina… along with Ayame. As for Takaki… he’s a love-sick puppy who’s writing to this unknown paper-girl? Oh ya, not forgetting about Hikaru who helped Daiki and also Inoo… the Akuma who has a secret crush on Hikari? Other than that… lately, there have also been some disputes between Yabu and Takaki I believe…”
“Shut up!” Daiki and Hikaru hollered as Takaki glared at Megumi.
“You told them…?” Takaki muttered with gritted teeth, as his red redden with anger, “About Yabu and Karina…? Daiki and Mira…? And also the others…?”
“Yes…” Megumi whimpered and tried to explain, “I just wanted you guys to see what you were doing to the people around you but I didn’t ask them to…”
“Megumi.” Daiki called out to her, “You don’t have to explain anymore. Everything is clear now… we trusted you… and this is what you did!!”
“I’m through with you!!” Takaki yelled as beads of tears dripped from his cheeks, “You don’t have to look for us anymore!! You win, Megumi!! If this is what you were after… YOU WIN!!!”
“You just ruined everything.” Hikaru whispered before the five Akumas departed from the battle scene and back to their clubhouse.
“I shouldn’t have opened my heart to her…” Takaki whispered as the tears continued to flow down his cheeks, “I shouldn’t have…”
