Chapter 14: Daiki and Aki…

“Arioka-Sama… if you don’t leave now the car won’t be able to drive through the crowd that is now gathering at our gates…” Daiki’s maid gently reminded him of the horde of girls that were blocking the gates and screaming their heads off.

“Can’t you just set my adorable puppies on them?” Daiki asked as-a-matter-of-factly, setting his cup of coffee onto the saucer.

“Arioka-Sama… aren’t the ferocious dogs too big to be called puppies?” the maid asked cautiously as Daiki narrowed his eyes at her.

The poor maid inhaled sharply as Daiki he threw his bag over his shoulder, “They’ll always be my adorable puppies.”

“Arioka-Sama… there’s a call from Madam.” His housekeeper suddenly said as he handed the phone carefully over to Daiki, who was rolling his eyes at the phone call.

“Oka-San?” Arioka answered the phone coldly.

“How’s my prince doing lately?” Daiki’s mother asked sweetly, “You do know that you Akumas are all over the papers do you?”

“Do you mean it in a good way…? Or a bad way…?” Daiki asked with an evil grin.

“Well… naturally… in a good way, my dear.” His mother replied, “They’re talking about how our five princes will be taking over the business world by storm.”

“Really?”

“Your Dad and me … we’ll not be coming back this weekend. Gomen ne?”

“Daijoubu… I know you guys are busy with work.” Daiki replied, trying not to sound disappointed as he ended the call with a soft sigh.

Noticing the disappointment on the young master’s face, the housekeeper started, “Arioka-Sama… if you miss Madam... you can always….” but shut the moment Daiki waved his hand at him.

“Thanks… but… I guess I’m used to them breaking their promises.” Daiki reassured, “Besides… even if we were to have dinner together… it’ll still be interrupted by many important calls, and also I don’t think we could have any topic to talk about either, don’t you think so?”

“GHOST~!!!” Hikaru’s daily scream echoed through the hallway as he crashed onto the door of the clubhouse, falling backwards as the door opened.

“What is it now, Hika?” Yabu asked as Hikaru lay motionless on the floor.

“Oh my god!” the rest of the Akumas screamed and backed away immediately as Inoo, who happened to reach school a little later today, spited his mouthful of water onto Megumi’s face in horror.

“Whatever have you done to your face!?” Yabu asked in disgust as Takaki helped to wipe the thick make-up off Megumi’s face whilst she turned this way and that, trying to spot Yabu.

“Don’t move.” Takaki said as he pushed her right cheek to make her look at him in the eye, “I can’t remove your makeup if you keep moving!”

“Well… you guys said not to come to school looking so plain… that’s why…” Megumi muttered and her voice trailed off when she noticed Daiki who rolled his eyes.

“That’s why you attempted to put on makeup by yourself?” Yabu continued for her as he pointed towards Hikaru, who was lying on the sofa, “Look at Hikaru’s reaction and you’ll know how disastrous it was.”

Megumi then blinked at Inoo, who was busy fanning Hikaru and Inoo narrowed his eyes at her… which sent shivers down her spine as she hurriedly turned around to face Takaki again. “Inoo-San must be the scariest Akuma amongst the five of you…” Megumi muttered as she blinked her eyes hardly and gulped.

“Inoo-Chan?” Takaki asked with a look of surprise, “he’s the KINDEST Akuma amongst the five of us…. He’s not scary at all. Totally harmless.”

“HUH!?” Megumi argued, “What do you mean by he’s HARMLESS???”

Before Takaki could say anything else, Hikaru cleared his throat and pointed towards the words that he had written on the whiteboard… ‘Rule number 6: Do not talk bad about the Akumas.’

“Especially KAWAII INOO-CHAN!!!” Hikaru screamed as he looked at Megumi from the corner of his eye.

Megumi’s hands flew to cover her mouth almost immediately after that. “Chotto matte…” Takaki said all of a sudden, “Did Yamapi call you…? I mean… after prom night?”

“No…” Megumi muttered, “Why?”

Daiki then rubbed his chin and replied with a smile on his face, “He should be calling soon…”

“Why?” Megumi asked, louder this time, “Please don’t hide anything from me! I have the right to know!”

Takaki rolled his eyes in an irritated manner and hollered for her to sit down as Yabu explained in his usual calmness, “We did a little research on that girl… and it appears that… once she’s gotten tired of a guy, she ditches him.”

There was a short pause as Takaki looked up and said, “… but… I’ve heard some of her friends say that she’s quite a professional at two timing as well…”

“Well…” Hikaru reassured him, “We’ll definitely know what to do if she does that…”

Megumi sensed the atmosphere of the room changing as the Akumas flashed their evil grins at one and another… whatever that they’re coming up with… it’s definitely not going to be good.

Daiki was at the vending machine when a girl who was standing beside him, waiting for her turn to buy a drink, turned him around and squealed in excitement, “Ne!! Ne!!! You’re one of the Akumas right?”

Daiki then rolled his eyes as he gave up on his drink and started to walk away… he was SO NOT in the mood for this kind of stuff right now. “Say… can you help me with something???” she continued asking, blinking at him with those big watery eyes of hers.

“Akumas don’t do…” Daiki started… but even before he could finish his sentence, that girl interrupted him.

“Take a picture with me!! Please????”

As Daiki protested, she hurriedly fished out her cell phone and hooked his arm lovingly, ignoring his protest and objection to taking photos. “Look at the phone!” She cried anxiously and Daiki stared at the phone for not more than a second and before you know it… CLICK! It was over.

“Arigato! Bye-bye!” The weird girl exclaimed as she hurried off with the picture, leaving Daiki standing there by himself, wondering what had just happened.

“Ne… so one of you claimed to be Dai-Chan’s girlfriend?” Takaki laughed at the second year students who retreated to a corner of the classroom in fear.

“Well… I heard from some on-lookers from yesterday that there was this girl… from this class… who took a photo with me and flashed it to her other suitors to chase them away…” Daiki explained to the terrified girls who backed off even more.

“Arioka-San… please calm down!!! It was only a photo!!!” Kusanagi panicked as he tried to resolve the situation before him.

“Kusanagi-San…” Hikaru smiled sweetly at his beloved principal who had his wig crooked (again.), “I seem to have taken an interest for your daughter lately…”

“NO!!!” Kusanagi pleaded dramatically as his glasses fell even lower down the bridge of his nose.

“What’s going on?” Daiki heard a familiar voice asked behind him, “Who are you guys?”

The Akumas then turned around with a smirk on their faces as Yabu said, “Watashi wa… Akuma desu.”

“Ah! Akuma!” The girl pointed at Daiki and gaped at him, “Why are you standing at my place!?”

Daiki noticed the cell phone in her other hand and took a glance at her textbook, which has her name written on it. “Aki?” He asked Aki as he pushed her hand down, taking her cell phone with his other hand, “I just want you to know that my photo is worth a lot of money…” he said as he searched for the picture taken yesterday and deleted it, “But… you know something?”

“Nani?”

“You’ll have to be responsible for what you said yesterday ne?” Daiki said with a smile on his face as Yabu flashed an evil grin at Takaki.

“Responsible for what?” Aki asked, puzzled at his question.

“… that you’re my girlfriend.” Daiki replied as he keyed his number into Aki’s cell phone, “Ja Ne…”

“Oi!” Aki hollered after Daiki as the Akumas walked past her one by one, “Oi! What do you mean by that!?”

Erika glared at the Akumas, who were walking off. There was a lump stuck in her throat as her eyes burned with anger and her heart overwhelmed with jealousy. She scrunched the test paper with her vice-like grip as the tears trickled down her rosy cheeks,

“Nande…?” she muttered with gritted teeth as she stood at the corner of the stairs along with her clique of Anti-Akuma girls, “Why does this girl get to have Dai-Kun just like that while I have to just stand by the side and watch?”

~*~

“C’mon Paper-Girl… write something that will catch my interest.” Takaki said in a sing-song voice as he unfolded the paper, taking the paper heart that normally come a long with it.

‘I think I’ve got a collection of these paper hearts at home now.’ Takaki thought as he sighed and stuffed the paper heart into the pocket of his pants.

I seriously wonder if I’m doing the right thing. Will I change into someone so ridiculously evil that I don’t recognize myself anymore? I hope I won’t. The thoughts of hurting Yamapi keep on ringing in my head…. Every night. I think I still love him. Yet I want to hurt him. Isn’t that the weirdest feeling anyone could’ve experienced?

“Talk about being dumb!” Takaki mocked, “Looks like even Paper-Girl can’t be sure of how she feels towards Yamapi!”

What!? You don’t even know if you still love him or not? Are you dumb or are just plain innocent? If you don’t wish to get your revenge then get your butt away from the Akumas NOW… and mean it this time. Don’t go rushing back to them if you change your mind… they definitely won’t appreciate that. Make your decision and stick to it, paper-girl… the Akumas waits for no one. They set a target, achieves it and moves on to another one. To them, you’re probably another one begging for their aid in your ‘project revenge’ and they just want to get over with it. ASAP. If you listen to them then nothing will go wrong… provided that you’re bent on getting your revenge.

Takaki gave a soft sigh as he threw the inkless pen into a nearby bin after putting the paper back to its original position. “I sounded too much like an Akuma.” Takaki muttered as he walked off coolly with one hand tucked into the pocket of his pants, “hopefully… she won’t find out.”

The journey to home seemed to be long as Megumi’s words echoed in his mind,

…I think I still love him….

“Damn her.” Takaki bit his lower lip in frustration as he ran a hand through his hair, “Why look for us if she still loves him!?”

“Takaki-Sama…. Is something the matter?” his chauffeur asked in a soothing tone that irritated him even further.

“Did I say you could talk?” he answered coldly. Typical of an Akuma.

~*~

Dropping the paper heart into a jar that he had placed beside his bed, he realized that it was now half full. “Or maybe… half empty. Just like my heart.” Takaki muttered to himself as he settled into his elegant black leather seat and lowered the backrest so that he could have a more perfect view of the overcasting sky.

His puppy trotted into the carpeted room and licked the master’s hand lovingly, yearning for some attention from his cold hearted master. Rolling over on the creamy white carpet, he begged for his master’s attention with his big watery eyes. Takaki grinned and stared at his adorable pup.

“You don’t have to ask for my attention like that, you cute little thing… you’re always special.” Takaki laughed after a short pretence of ignoring the pup, ruffling the pup’s head and bringing the white little creature onto his lap.

Stroking the puppy in a relaxed manner, he muttered to himself, “Please tell me that you’re getting out of our lives, Paper-Girl. We’re getting tired of facing the truth… very tired.”
