Reading - it improves and gives the reader a better vocabulary of both the written and spoken language. Everyone knows that, but I never noticed it for myself or thought about it until last term at school when I was in the cafeteria. I was going somewhere (can't remember where) and thinking to myself of the plans I was about to do when the wording of "I will go hither...(yadda yadda yadda)"
...?
Hither? I never say hither! What in the world ?!
I only bring this up because I just read a friend's post that is extremely long and the majority of it is using (I'd say proper english but that wouldn't sound correct) formal english and she mentioned reading Tolkien. She said that liked writing formally and stuff (Yes,
evil_holls, I'm talking about you... though in a good way) ^.~
I think I should really start reading more of the older literature if I want to get a better vocabulary for my comic; my vocab sucks when it comes to writing, IMO - well, most of the time, not counting the odd day when I just can't be stopped. *Huzzah!*
There is one of the many cyber comics that I'm reading right now and it takes place in the distant fantasy past, but they speak in colloquial speech as appose to the more formal, more polite language of the day. I, personally, find it a bit distracting from the story. The art is good and the story is original, but the dialog could be worked on a bit more in sections, but it's their comic and they can do whatever they want - just like I'm going to do my comic my way.
It all makes sense and I'm rambling now, so I'll shut up.
You're Captain Archer! You're always in control of situations and are very adventurous. You're a leader, but you're also laid back and willing to listen to what others have to say. You look a great deal like a scientist from 1999 named Dr. Sam Beckett.
