The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Thoughts

While I think that Disney dropped the ball when it left the Narnia series, FOX has stepped forward and will be attempting to continue the Narnia tales.

The first official trailer of
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has been released to mixed reviews and I will say that I was confused about some of the things in the trailer myself. But that's because it's been at least seven years since I read the book and can barely remember any of it.

Fortunately, there is the overly cheesy BBC version of the movie and I have refreshed my memory save from picking up the book and have solved some of the WTF moments in seeing the trailer.

Prince Caspian was cast much older in the film, because of this movie. Caspian is much older in Dawn Treader and they did not want to have two different actors for the same part. It is much easier to make someone who is older to look older. At least I think so. I'm not an expert on movie make-up, but I would just think so.

Now, the biggest WTF moment that made me question the writers is the cameo of the White Witch talking to Edmond of him becoming her king. At first, this goes against the books as she is not mentioned in this book and there's speculation that she is the woman in The Silver Chair (or so I've heard). So why would she be in this book?

The reason I think is this: the Dawn Treader sails into a darkness at one point where your dreams come true. But not your best dreams, it's your worst dreams come true. So, naturally for Edmond would be about the White Witch. At least one would think.

Unfortunately, I can't think of why Peter and Susan would be there in the film other than for a flashback. Peter only appears again in the last book, and Susan appears as her older self in The Horse and His Boy.

While a lot of people are not looking forward to this film, I am. I enjoyed the first two installments and look forward to this one, though with a little apprehension. There are a few changes from the first two so naturally fans tends to get a little nervous: new director, some new voice actors (Reepicheep is not Eddie any longer), but mainly the new company backing it.

I look forward to this Christmas.
