Common Cat Misconceptions #122: Cats Do Not Play Fetch

May 07, 2006 11:36

This morning I was sitting quietly on the couch consuming Vol. 7 of Sandman when I heard a jinglejinglejingle approaching me. It was Mercutio with a jingle ball cat toy in his mouth. He jumped up on the couch and placed it next me.

"What do you want, Mer? You wanna play?," I asked as I batted it towards him. He just looked at it as it rolled towards him and looked back at me. Hmm, that's odd, I thought, so I picked it up and threw it across the room. Jingle Jingle JingleJingle.

Like a rocket, Mer shot off the couch and chased the small ball. Once he got to it, he batted it around for about 30 seconds and then picked it up and ran back over to the couch, dropping the ball into my hand when he reached me. Rinse. Repeat.

Oh crap, my cat plays Fetch...he's going to lose his cat street cred, I thought. After several iterations of this game, however, I wasn't so worried about that. After all, he plays it his own way and he taught it to himself (actually, thinking about it it's more like he taught me to play it)

I am so happy to have this little furry sweetheart in my life. I don't post much about him because I really try hard not to be a Crazy Cat Lady but sometimes it's impossible to resist.
