Changing time. It was what they did all the time, supposedly, what with things being in flux and everything. But as far as she knew, it had never affected her personal time line before. It was funny - she had both sets of memories. Donna was pretty sure that wasn't supposed to happen; must be that little bit of Doctor still in her.
First, there was River's stunned, "Donna? You're Donna? Donna Noble?"
There had been something in her eyes, a hint of things to come. Bad things. Well, she knew what that was all about now, and maybe River was right to look at her like that. But it didn't matter any more, because they had changed it, Donna and the Doctor, together. Reverse, redo, make it better.
Second, there was River, sly grin and hand on hip. "Donna Noble. What a delightful surprise."
It had bothered her at the time, the way River seemed to know her. The way she'd look at her like she knew all these things about her. And about the Doctor and the TARDIS of course, but whenever she'd talked to Donna there had been something else there. An extra spark in River's eyes when she smiled, another layer of tension that oddly made Donna feel sort of naked.
As it turned out, there was a very good reason for that. Namely, that River had counted all of Donna's freckles. With her tongue.
Donna squirmed as River's mouth moved up, over the back of her knee, and higher yet. She'd already done a quite thorough inventory on her arms and breasts and stomach, and finally things were heading to a less frustrating place. "Don't make me lose count," River said. "Unless you want me to start over?"
She didn't wait for an answer before moving up and over Donna's hip, tongue swirling and a hand tickling so annoyingly close to where she wanted it.
River Song, the worst tease in the universe.
The Doctor hadn't told her any details, but Donna had a strong suspicion that River and him had been, or would be, or whichever the correct tense was, involved in some capacity, before they changed the time line. Maybe she should feel guilty that she was thanking him for getting her memories back by essentially stealing his future/past girlfriend, but it wasn't like he seemed all that eager himself. Barely let her into the TARDIS until Donna called him an idiot and told River she could sleep in her room.
Where she, oddly enough, seemed to be quite comfortable. It took longer than Donna liked to admit to realise it was because River had been there before.
River settled in behind her as her mouth found Donna's spine, licking her way up. It was producing all kinds of interesting sensations, but things were definitely not moving in the right direction any more.
"I think you missed a few down there," Donna pointed out, and wiggled her hips against her. Not that she minded lying still while being so deliciously spoiled, but she really wasn't that big on patience.
River laughed against her shoulder. "I don't think so." Donna attempted to roll over, but River pressed closer, holding her in place. "I'm not done. Do you know how many freckles you have on your back? This is going to take awhile."
River's hand snuck down between Donna's legs, and suddenly she didn't mind at all if River took her time. The angle was a bit awkward, but it worked and pretty soon Donna was too busy trying to catch her breath to notice. There was pressing and pinching and rubbing and fingers inside, curling, all the while River's mouth and tongue sought out new spots on her skin.
"Your back," River mumbled against her neck, "is like a sky full of stars."
Donna was about to tell her that she was talking rubbish, except just then River's fingers started stroking faster and harder against her and she completely lost track of that thought. And then, just as it was almost too much, or almost just enough; body reaching, straining, arching - River's hand stilled.
"Too bad," River said. "I lost count. I'm going to have to start over now."
"I'm gonna kill you," Donna panted.
She could hear the smirk in River's voice as she breathed in her ear, "I look forward to it."
