Sophie now calmed down started going through the files in the folder, hidden in a secret compartment in Sian’s suitcase. Work, work and more work. That’s all there was. “Fuck you Sian” Sophie whispered as she shook her head and gazed down at the glittering ring that rested on her finger. Sophie snapped her neck up, she gazed out the window leading out to the balcony as the sun slowly disappeared and the sky was now a light pink mixed with orange. It was a view to die for, it was perfect.
Sophie picked up Sian’s phone and looked through the recent calls, seeing the same 2 numbers appear numerous times throughout the dates of their holiday, one number belonging to the firm and the other one to Daniel, her assistant. She then went to the photos just out of curiosity and chuckled slightly as there was a few of her sleeping on the plane and Sian grinning next to her, clearly taking the piss. Sophie smiled as she saw the one of her and Sian posing as they laid together on their king size bed with the sheets up to their collarbone covering their glory.
Sophie let her arm go limb as the phone rested in the palm of her hand. Gazing back out the window she thought she should confront Sian now and get this shit over with. There was going to be tears, she was sure of it. She was more than angry about Sian lying to her the whole time and saying all the things this morning. It was just too much, she just wanted to let it go and let Sian continue whatever she’s going with work but realised something. Sian’s work was the reason why the word divorce ever came into play, she was always constantly working non-stop and it drove Sophie crazy.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw Sian’s phone light up. The iPhone lock screen appeared with the wedding picture of her and Sophie. Sian holding Sophie in her arms as they stood together as one. Sophie allowed the smallest of tears to escape her eyes. She and Sian were grinning like chesire cats. Sophie doubled clicked the home button to see Sian’s history. She was on a document app, probably containing all her work. Sophie clicked on it and went through all Sian’s work, and god there was a lot and Sophie was blown away with the amount of effort the woman put in.
Turning the phone off she used a pin to take the sim card out. She knew that if Sian lost this work she would be proper done for. So instead Sophie placed it in the back pocket of her denim shorts. Standing up she tied her hair back in a loose pony tail and then taking the phone and placing it in her front pocket, ready to confront Sian.
“OK are you guys ready to head back to the room?” Sian asked her kids as she placed her light pink singlet and denim shorts back on, tying her wet hair back into a messy bun. “Yes! I am soooo tired!” TJ complained as he walked out of the water like a zombie. Sian laughed as she held a towel out for Lily who came running into her arms. “There you go sweetie!” Sian chuckled as she wrapped the towel around her daughter and threw one to TJ. “Come on you, you look like you’re walking dead!” Sian chuckled as she walked towards her son slinging an arm around his shoulder as she kissed the top of his head.
TJ groaned as he walked up the beach with his mum and sister. He looked up and smiled as he saw Sophie walking down the beach towards them. “MUM!” He yelled out as he sprinted up to her making Sian and Lily snap their heads up and smile. “Hey Teej” Sophie greeted her son as she hugged the wet boy. “Mummy!” She heard her daughter squeal as she slammed into Sophie nearly making her lose balance as she hugged her children. Breaking the hug she bent down to her children with Sian not far behind them, watching them. “Can you guys head up back to the room because I need to have a little chat with your mum ok?” She spoke quietly and Sian frowned because she only heard the muffle sounds. “Ok” they both nodded and TJ nodded again with his eyebrows furrowing as to think about what they were going to talk about. Then his eyes nearly popped out of his head as he looked at his mother.
“You foun-“ she interrupted him. “Yeah” she smiled weakly and TJ shook his head as he gazed down. “Mum, please don’t sugg- “Sophie interrupted him again, knowing that he was going to tell her not to suggest a divorce. “I don’t think I will” she spoke quietly and then quickly smiled as she stood back up and watched her kids walk up the steps leading to the top of the beach.
Sophie turned back around to Sian who looked a little confused. “We need to talk..right now” Sophie said sternly as she walked past Sian, nudging her forcefully in the shoulder as she paced down the beach. “Sophie?!” Sian called out confused as she quickly followed her fast paced wife. Sophie reached the start of the water and watched as the water waved over her feet and then back into the ocean. She could feel Sian’s presence close as she folded her arms over her chest.
“Soph?” She heard Sian whisper. “Babe what’s going on?” Sian asked worriedly as she saw a stream on tears flow down Sophie’s cheek. Placing her hand gently on Sophie’s cheek only to have her flinch at the touch, it hurt Sian. “Soph! Please tell me what’s going on? Baby please?” Sian begged as she could now feel her eyes start to sting, watching her wife gaze aimlessly out into the ocean with a solid face.
“You tell me!” Sophie chuckled with venom as she reached into her front pocket and pulled the iPhone out, Sian’s iPhone and held it. Sophie heard the breath hitch in Sian’s throat. “Soph I’m-“ Sophie interrupted her. “NO YOUR NOT SIAN!” Sophie shouted fed up with everything, fed up with Sian. “YOU LIED TO ME! I CANT BELIEVE IT!” Sophie continued on a rage as she took a few steps away from Sian, feeling the need for some space. “Sophie... “Sian cried tears now flowing freely down her cheeks. “I went through your phone Sian...I saw who you called, who called you and I know the work you have been doing and how much since the start of this holiday and let me tell you....there is a shit load....so” Sophie smiled sarcastically “Say goodbye to this” she spoke as she raised Sian’s phone a threw it straight into the water, far away.
Sian held her head in her hands. Fuck sakes she thought. Everything was screwed up now, not only was Sophie more than furious with her but so would her boss because off all the work she had just lost. Not only that there were pictures, numbers and details on there that she needed and yet they were all gone. However, right now she didn’t give a damn about work, the only thing the mattered to Sian right now in this very second was Sophie, her wife.
“Sophie I don’t give a shit that you just threw my phone away ok!? I just want you to know that I’m SORRY! OK! I know that I am selfish, I know that you, well everyone thinks I place work before family. I know that you hate me right now, I know that you’re thinking of a divorce at the moment, considering on what has happened in the last few months. OK!? I know...” Sian cried out as she held a gaze with Sophie.
“I just want to know why you lied to me. And why you were still doing work? I mean come on Sian! Your work addiction was the reason for me wanting to leave you!” Sophie stated as she held her arm out producing more effect. Sian wiped her tears, “I know, I know and I just never seem to learn right?” Sian asked her voice breaking as she continued the gaze with Sophie.” Yes Sian, you never seem to learn... “Sophie whimpered her voice cracking as she shook her head.
