The conversation about what's scary to mainland people-- long story short, it's us-- has me thinking about how to me, perhaps what's scariest is the attitudes of mainland people. Being treated with superstitious fear, threatened, mobbed, arrested, just because people are afraid of alchemy.
A lot of mainland people seem to think that if a force can be good, it can also be evil. That if there are kind spirits, there must be malevolent ones. They seem to think that it balances that way. And no matter what you try to tell them, they think it's just some offbeat theory, as if alchemy hadn't actually demonstrated the things you're trying to say. As if solar knowledge were the only kind that mattered.
It's so hard, sometimes. Vayne granted me the power to touch people and make them instantly understand, but that only worked within the world for as long as it existed. I never even had the chance to use it... It's a shame that it couldn't be a meta-power. I just want to help people know what I know. I think I can imagine why Vayne gets so upset when he can't.
