Guy sat cross-legged in the semi-dark on the cold floor of fused granite and stared at what his friend, Jake, called the "anomaly". The sound of men and women arguing in hushed, angry voices swirled behind him but, as usual, he paid no heed to anything that did not directly involve him. This left him free to ponder the impossible "nothing" that hovered in front of the bank of Ghoster equipment clustered against the wall.
