I just read an article on Yahoo about the security of the wireless systems at retail department stores. It found that 25% of the stores that they checked had security errors.
This makes me wonder about when I buy items using my debit/credit card. Is the store that I am buying from using on of these wireless access points that have failed the test.
This reminds me of a story that my professor told in my networking class about one of his students was war driving and found out that his very own dentist had a non-secured wireless setup. He was able, through a packet sniffer, see a person entire medical record for that office.
I hope this companies realize that if someone hacks their system and gets all these credit cards then their customers have to right to sue them. Maybe this thought will help them try to make their systems more secure.
