A salty sea breeze brushes my cheek.
I open my eyes.
I squint
against the staggering white light.

The azure of the ocean
meets the pale light blue of the midday sky.
The sun casts silver stepping stones
off the edge of the Earth.

Tattered rags cover my body
freckled with bits of dingy brownish tinge.
My senses are numb
to exhausted joints and abused skin.

Below the sea forces itself at me
with wave after wave
tearing at the granite
far beneath my feet.

Without looking back
my mind recalls the grey treacherous path
laid with stony crags and slippery gravel
that led me here.

I turn my head slightly
with a gentle smirk.
I close my eyes
and offer a final step forward.
I had started this poem a few years back, but I didn't know quite how to complete it. I finished it tonight. It's a work in progress as all my poetry is, but I like it as it is at the moment. It's simple. I have a habit of overcomplicating my poetry when I write. I refrained from overembellishing as much as possible. I haven't written in so long. I should start writing again...

With love
Timo
